So, I unpacked a box of awards plaques that the UPS Store #4970 (Webb City address but located at Stone’s Corner) had shipped to our international conference in Reno, Nevada. Much to my horror, all but one of the tile plaques were chipped or cracked. I had twice instructed the UPS Store to pack them in bubble wrap, but they simply taped up the flimsy box I had brought the plaques in and shipped it to Reno. With no padding whatsoever, it’s no surprise they arrived in such bad shape.
Many of the award recipients were good sports about their broken plaques, but some wanted them redone and mailed to them. Upon visiting UPS Store #4970 when I returned from Reno, I was instructed to file an online claim with UPS. I received $182.42 from my claim – about half of what I had requested. The tile plaques cost $37.50 each, and with the money from the claim I almost had enough to redo five of them. I asked the store manager if the store would cover the mailing cost of the five plaques. Two of them needed to go to Canada; the others to Iowa, Wisconsin, and Missouri. Here is the response from the store manager: “I checked with the owner, and unfortunately, we will not be able to pay to ship these.” I asked who the store owner was, but the manager said she was not allowed to reveal her identity.
I realize that people make mistakes, but I am afraid to use UPS Store #4970 again. It is such a busy place, with customers constantly entering and leaving. This particular store always seems to be extremely short-staffed. I think my instructions to wrap the plaques in bubble wrap were probably forgotten in the hustle and bustle. I am just not confident that this wouldn’t happen again. I also think the store should have made good on the negligence of one of...
Read moreBecause of prices of this location I no longer use UPS for shipping. After calculating online as well as using eBay calculator this store has always charged me much more than online calculations. The last straw was when I carried in a 6x6 box, identical to the 6x6 sold in their store. Told the employee the contents value was $20 and also stated I had also put some candy and a small stuffed animal in the box declaring no value of the other items. Cost to ship to Mexico was about $75. I told the employee it was not worth shipping and went to USPS. The employee printed me a slip if I decided to change my mind and use their services. After reading the slip, somehow the employee decided the box was 8”x8” and the value of the contents was $50. Final cost for shipping...
