This place had a great atmosphere. When we pulled in we were excited by the old diner style looking building. Around the building had a lot of old signs as well which made for a great photo opportunity. The interior design had a nostalgic vibe and there were many pez and giant pez lining the walls. Inside we were greeted by friendly staff. The wait time to be seated was not long at all for it being lunch time, less than 5 minutes. Masks are highly encouraged when not at your table. Efforts were made to maintain social distancing, about every other table was marked not available. Our waitress, Summer was really friendly and attentive to our needs even though she had several new tables all sit down at the same time. We ordered the BBQ Bacon & Cheddar Burger with Cheddar Fries and the 66 Burger with Fries, both burgers were ordered without onions and medium well. Both meals were $12.99 with the exception that we paid $2 more to upgrade one to the Cheddar Fries. If ordering here again, we would not upgrade to the Cheddar Fries because it was not a huge taste difference for us and we did not feel like the amount of cheese added to the fries was worth $2. While on the topic of fries, they were just OK, they were soft on the inside but lacked a crispy outside. Due to the lack of crispiness, almost half of the fries were soggy and floppy. The BBQ Bacon & Cheddar Burger was good, however for someone that likes BBQ sauce I was left wondering where the BBQ sauce was. The BBQ sauce was good, however there was so little of it that you could barely taste it. The cheddar on the burger didn't stand out at all so it must have been a very mild cheddar. The 66 Burger was in its own little highlighted box on the menu and we chose to order this burger because it's iconic name and the way it stood out on the menu. The bun was nice and soft, the patty seemed thin and underwhelming in flavor, the tomato and lettuce did not seem super fresh at all, the pickles were overly sharp in their tartness and consistently overwhelmed the flavor of the burger, and the green chille peppers were good if you like chille peppers however if you are not used to them prepare for a slight bite and food sweats. I would not get the 66 Burger again. Overall, I feel the quality of the food was somewhere halfway between Mc Donald's and Red Robins. Ultimately, there was friendly staff and a nice environment and it was an enjoyable experience but I feel like this is a place I would only eat at once for the experience as there are so many other eating establishments nearby and for the price of the food the taste did not come close to...
Read moreRead moreI left the Isotopes game early on 05/03 with the specific intention of going to this diner before it closed, which is a favorite of my 81 year old father. I'm not awful enough to be one of those people to show-up 5-10 minutes before closing and expect service. Only a-holes pull that maneuver. I showed-up at 8:45, 1 hour prior to closing. I was greeted by a sign on the door with diners inside. The sign indicated the usual pleasantries and then said "closing early do to an equipment malfunction" or something to that effect. I'm an adult. The people that work at the diner are adults. It is a universal hatred of adults to be treated like children. If your flight is delayed, don't you hate the patronizing b.s. from the airlines when they don't tell you why? Weather? The crew is delayed/over their union-mandated hours? Maintenance? Poor planning by the airline? Someone clogged the lavatory? Just tell me the truth, I'm an adult, I can handle it and if you provide me with all the relevant information I can make adult decisions. When I saw the sign at 66 Diner regardless of what it said, I thought, "staff wants to go home early." Tell me the truth. If the reefer is broken, say that? Cook sick? Milkshake machine broken? Out of food? Grill on fire? Humor me. I don't come down from Taos very often but when I do I have my favorites like 66 Diner. I'll be back buy this is weak sauce and emblematic of the current world we live whereby the hours listed as trading hours are merely a recommendation. I wish I could do that as a dentist but regardless of what is going on, I find a way to stay open and serve everybody under my care. Sigh. I drove to Chick-fil-A where everything appeared...
Drove to Albuquerque and went to the Route 66 diner. Ordered a chicken fried steak and my wife ordered a patty melt.
It took close to 40 minutes to get the food, and when it was received, the gravy was cold and the potatoes were cold with cold gravy on it.
Patty melt couldn’t have had any fewer onions on it, and it had no dressing whatsoever when thousand Island should’ve been on it
Our waitress was a wonderful young lady and we told her of the issues but by that time we just simply said we were done and we got up. I was going to pay the bill for the shake and for an appetizer and when we got ready to walk out she stopped and asked us and we told her what happened and she asked if we would like to speak to the manager.
I said yes we would, she was gone for a couple minutes and came back and said the manager was too busy. He was in another area working . She said that he told her to just tell them no charge.
I hope this wasn’t the owner but most likely it was a manager. If the owner reads this, I’d fire the manager because when the manager tells a customer, they don’t have time for him you’ve got a problem
I included a picture so that you would know that I was actually there. I would not recommend this to anyone while it is a really cool place. If you’re looking to visit route 66. It’s a very cool place if you’re looking to...
