This store is not only rude to it's long time, consistent customers, they are LIARS as well, I found out tonight. I shop at village market 2 it sometimes even 3 times per week and have for the last 10 years I've lived in Allegan. And having a family of 5 you can imagine how much cash we drop at a small town grocery store with high prices. Not having a coffee because it's the only place in Allegan to get groceries, I do shop here for convenience. Well tonight was really something! My boyfriend and I went in to cash his payroll check and spend 10% of it on groceries (because that's what management told us 3 weeks ago when we cashed his first payroll check there that we had to do to get it cashed) he works later in the day and hasn't had time to open his own bank account lately. The first time the night "Manager", Kyley, was all too happy to oblige us and even rung put groceries up, initialed the check and handed me the change. It was probably about 9pm on a Friday. The second time which was last Friday, the day Manager, Bill, came right up front to self check and asked the cashier to help read the small letters on the driver's license and initialed the paycheck and we got our groceries. Tonight, the night " Manager" and I use that title loosely, have us FOUR DIFFERENT EXCUSES as to why she "couldn't" canc his check even though we were spending $200.00 on food! This is the same woman that laughed, smiled, and was happy to do so 2 weeks prior. First, it was too late at night (it was 7:30 pm), second was the store didn't have enough money (please lady, we all know we're not rich), 3rd, Wayland was too far out of radius for them to call (she said outside of 15 miles couldn't be done). I used GPS and it is exactly 15 miles from Allegan to Wayland. 4th, she entered in the check account number and it didn't show in their system. She claimed she didn't remember ever doing that. I had to laugh out loud, selective memory, I assumed. 4 different excuses I thought to myself. Then, the woman, who's younger than I am, called me "honey" and that did me in! I told her she should be ashamed standing in front of me lying to my face and basically telling me I'm a list and that I never cashed a check there before! I told her she would not call me "honey", she didn't know me, didn't even remember me, right!!? This woman was just plain too lazy to do the extra maybe 2 minutes of work it would've taken her to do something she'd already done and then claims to have never done. It's not a very big town, and I'm in there very consistently! A co-worker worker even said she just didn't want to do it. I also told her if my teenager we in front of me and rambled off 4 different excuses, I would surely question it and I would with her too. This would be the second and very LAST time this store and their so-called management treats me like a piece of dirt!! All I have to say is lazy lazy lazy, and selective memory and LIES! DO NOT TAKE YOUR BUSINESS TO ALLEGAN VILLAGE MARKET! YOU'RE WASTING YOUR MONEY! And they have selective corrected behavior!! RUDE and LAZY! UNPROFESSIONAL AS WELL! There was 4, yes 4 employees standing around a register when we walked in doing absolutely nothing to begin with. Then we were insulted. Village market, you reek of bad employees and zero...
Read moreNever enough cashiers, self check outs are too close together so people cannot get a cart thru easily. It also takes forever to get a price check on sale items that are incorrectly put into the system. We need better grocery store options here .
they charge taxes on some food items, this is probably due a mistake when entering the barcode but the cashiers should know how to fix this w/o being rude. We need a better store.
They also commonly, advertise things as on sale & then they don't ring up properly. This would be fine but I've pointed it out to several cashier's - still get overcharged. This happens at village market more often then any other store. Below are pictures of items I purchased that clearly have a coupon or sale sticker on them & it went unnoticed. I even let the cashier know that the pork was on sale & the produce had a coupon.
9-31-22 update...the bad service continues....I use reusable shopping bags & this upset the cashier. He told me stories of bed bugs & covid living in reusable shopping bags. I sanitize them & your risk of contamination from a grocery bag is pretty low 😦 they also have meat in the cooler that's best buy date was tomorrow & it was brown & still being sold at full price....

Now, that's not really fair, there *is that Grocery Outlet in the new building up by the old bowling alley now. The biggest issue is the produce, you have to check it very very carefully for rot. It's probably because there isn't enough demand for fresh produce that it sits too long, but seriously have has to throw away so much, "fresh fruit", in the past few years. That aside, for a small town store they do have a fairly decent selection and variety. The Deli has a good variety, and the workers are always friendlu. None of the employees making the food seem to wear masks. They are no longer open 24 hours a day, which means you can't run in after work to grab dinner anymore. (As with most places...
