Oak Lane Candle Co. — Local services in Ames

The owner is misrepresenting what happened. The first thing I did upon entering the property (which was entirely empty and not busy by any stretch of the imagination) was ask if I could sit on the couch and read for a bit. I was waiting for a friend and did not think I owed an explanation, and he was also in the market for lotion and body wash, so he was a potential customer.

When the owner says "long periods of time," they are blatantly misrepresenting how long I was there. I could not have been there for more than 20 minutes, simply reading and not interacting with anybody, making it a point of being as quiet as possible on a couch nobody else was sitting in.

Please note this establishment has vast room for seating, and the place was almost entirely empty during the time I spent in the furthest and most unobtrusive corner of the room.

Also misrepresented is "the interaction was friendly." The owner spoke shortly to me and regarded me as though I was a nuisance. On behalf of my friend I asked some questions about some of the products, but by this time the owner had no interest in helping me and was eager to get rid of me. There is nothing "friendly" about asking somebody to leave a store, and while what the owner choses to do with their property is their choice, I think this is rude and ridiculous behavior.

I lovvvvvvvvvvvve this shop. The character of the building itself is beautiful and welcoming. 😍 It’s a candle shop, so of course it smell amazing. It’s clean, well kept, which can be tricky with having so much different inventory (because it’s so much more than just candles!!). I have gifted so many people her candles, and with more and more people taking notices of toxins in their homes, it’s a peace of mind there too. I’ve done the pour bar here with a group of my family members, and it’s a super fun experience to do together and then you get the amazing party favor. 😂 I’ve had a great experience with any and all employees from day one of opening- but the shop owner is just GOOD PEOPLE. The kind that feels like “home” and not the ones that are pushy or a feeling that making sales is the only priority. This is even the case when seeing Oak Lane at events/markets like the DSM Farmer’s Market. GO, go find your treasures at Oak Lane nowwww! (Also, I love rocking...

I contacted Oak Lane through their website to ask about making a couple of custom candle scents as a wedding gift to my future sister-in-law. Stacy responded quickly over email, and helped me work out a plan to create something special. She took the time with me at the Pour Bar to craft two different scent profiles to match my idea of a wedding reception theme and a honeymoon theme. She had great ideas for combinations and a really deep knowledge of the subtle differences in the various scents. She was extremely patient as I tried a ton of different combinations to find the one that was just right. I designed the final labels for two of the vessels she had available in the shop, and I know the bride-to-be will love these—I got her hooked on Oak Lane Candles when I gave her one as a Christmas gift this past year. ☺️
