I'm so appalled that I don't even know where to start with this review. My boyfriend and I had done meticulous research on hairstyles and when we walked in, we showed them a picture. They told us that his hair is too short to make it happen. That's fine, we wanted to take a second to think of what else we should ask for. Ideally, we would have wanted to just ask for a haircut and forgo any additional styling so we could wait for his hair to grow out. The hairdresser gives us less than a minute to think before she says to just let her do what she thinks is best. She continues to tell my boyfriend that she's been a hairdresser for years, knows how to do perms well, etc. Seemingly to validate her skills and justify why she should take control over his hairstyle without even asking us what we wanted. We assumed she was just going to give him a haircut, but she ended up giving him a perm without asking if he wanted one or asking what kind of style he would want. He came out with a complete surprise look -- not what we planned or wanted at all. For some reason, she thought it was acceptable to not ask what he wanted or give him any sense of agency during HIS haircut. If she was going to take over, then at least surprise us with a great hairstyle. The perm and cut she went for absolutely does not match his face shape and we can think of so many other haircuts that probably would have been simpler and complimented him more. I'm just incredibly disappointed and I cannot believe we paid money for this haircut that we had absolutely no say in.
My second issue is the hairdresser's attitude -- plain rude. My boyfriend has visible eczema. She made several comments like "your hair looks so good, it's just a shame about your skin" or "if I was your mom I would be so sad." I'm not sure what gives her the impression to make unsolicited comments about my boyfriend's looks. I don't even think we should have paid for this experience, considering we didn't ask for my boyfriend to get a review on his appearance or the style he got. I will be calling to get a refund. Absolutely loved every outcome. Knowing that each person would create a different look. Looked up Korean perm and this salon came up. 3 hours away from me. That was fine, because it was want I wanted. Made the appointment. Still researching this perm. Now I called back to the salon a week before my appointment. To make sure I didnāt have to get layers to get this perm. She says no! Great!!! Today Iām excited for my appointment! Drive 3 hours. Left at 7am! Now I curled my hair to show her kinda what I wanted. The first lady didnāt get it, or maybe couldnāt do it. So she calls this other girl. She plays with my hair. Says oh yeah this is what you will get. I ask again do you need to cut layers. She says NO! Now I sit down, she starts itās not like my research, but Iām thinking maybe, trust the process. It is not good. I have waves on the top of my head. On a Korean perm that should be wavy on the bottom. On the bottom my hair is still straight!! Now at this Point she is twisting my hair trying to get waves. She puts oil, and has tangled my hair trying to make me see a wave! At this point my hair is tangled and damp. I came a day before the appointment for the evaluation which was just her insulting and looking down at my "damaged" hair. my hair isn't damaged, it's just curly and frizzly. she's accustomed to Korean, silky straight hair so I guess this was a new experience. the lack of diversity made me nervous. I have no problem with it, however, it proves the shortage of experience when dealing with non-Asian costumers. The owner spoke to the employee that was doing my treatment in Korean and she wasn't very nice about it. The owner's facial expression showed that she was disgusted by my hair. she held it as if it was a piece of trash. I was so uncomfortable and so was the employee that was doing my treatment whenever the owner was there. The aura she carried with her was just harsh and close-minded. The lady doing my treatment was extremely kind and genuine. She did an outstanding job and the treatment was perfect.
