Last May I began looking into buying a BMW. I’ve never had a BMW before so I called and spoke with Alex Powell and made an appointment to meet him on the weekend and my wife and I took a drive to Asheville to look at the X5 models on the lot. My wife and I were both impressed with the quality, ride, and features of the X5. Alex knew that we were both new to the brand and was very patient to explain every aspect of the company as well as the car. On our first visit to the dealership, we test drove a 2024 X540i. As I did more research, I began to have an interest in the M models and spoke to Alex that. He mentioned that they had a 2024 X5 M60i on the lot and so my wife and I returned to test drive that car. It was quite an impressive vehicle for sure! I thought that was the model I wanted, but I still had questions about the X5M Competition. I kept wondering about the difference between the M60i and the X5M. Alex gave me good advice and said the only way to know for sure is to drive an M car. He said “You’ll know very quickly if this is the model for you or not.” Given my previous conversations, he firmly believed that I would be getting the “best of both worlds” with the M60i but yet he still thought it best to drive the M. It wasn’t long before the dealership had an X5M Competition on the lot and Alex arranged for me to test drive it. I have to say Alex most definitely takes his time to build a relationship with his customers and match them to their perfect ultimate driving machine! This is the hallmark of an outstanding salesman. The experience of buying a luxury item such as this is something to be savored and BMW of Asheville goes above and beyond to provide that to current and prospective customers alike. In the end, the M was the car I chose and with his help and his manager, Alvin Monroy, we put together a deal that involved pre-trading my 2022 Subaru Outback. Everything from my initial contact with Alex to the process of ordering my vehicle and taking delivery of my car (tomorrow) has been outstanding. I can not recommend this dealership or Alex and Alvin highly enough.
EDIT - Barrington is the BMW Genius who helped me with the initial delivery of the car. He gave me a detailed explanation of the features and systems. He also helped me set up myBMW app, get my car and the app synced, and get my eSIM for my cell carrier set. He was great. About a week later, I got a text from the dealership inviting me to come back and work with Barrington to learn even more about the car. Charla was my finance officer who helped with the paperwork and the final sales documents for the car and she was extremely friendly and helpful, especially when advising me of the various levels of BMW Ultimate Care packages. Her guidance was much appreciated and it was truly geared towards what would be ideal and best suited for me as the customer. EDIT - Since I bought the X5M, I’ve had my car in for the break-in service, but I’ve also had a few questions for the service department. Every time I’ve called, I’ve either spoken to Savannah or left a message for her. She has never failed to call me back in a timely manner and her customer service has been top notch. Kainan was my service technician for today and he shot a video going into detail about the issue I brought my car in for. He explained it in a cogent manner that was super easy to understand and even though my car was having a puddle light checked out, Kainan still checked the tread wear on my tires, brakes and rotors. He also did a quick inspection of the engine. That's what I call above and beyond service. He certainly didn't have to do all that, but that's the kind of pride in these cars and the service department that technicians like Kainan have. My wife and I just completed the purchase of our 3rd BMW from BMW of Asheville, a beautiful San Remo Green Z4 M40i with a tan interior and the Handschalter option (manual transmission).
We placed the order for the Z4 in February knowing that it was going to be many months before receiving the Z4. Unfortunately in March, I was diagnosed with terminal cancer. With the clock ticking, I called Alex Powell, with whom we had worked on all our BMW purchases, and asked if there was any way we could have the car built, shipped, and delivered sooner rather than later. Within a day Alex called me back to say that he and the BMW of Asheville team were able to make arrangements to move our Z4 up in the queue with a delivery target date of June.
On May 16th, I received a call from Alex stating that the Z4 was ready for me to pick up. I was a bit confused and surprised that the car was ready but didn’t even question it.
We arrived at the dealership and Alex greeted us. He took us to the display room where our ultimate driving machine was under a black velvet car cover. As Alex pulled off the cover to reveal a magnificent San Remo Green Z4 the car engine and exhaust came to life. How did the engine start? I looked into the car and there sat my son and daughter-in-law who had flown in from Texas for the event. Alex even offered to pick up our son and daughter-in-law at the Asheville airport. You could have knocked me over with a feather. It turns out that my wife and Alex had been in communication for the past several days to plan the surprise.
The paperwork to take delivery of the car was completed quickly. Next, we received the training overview, electronic device setup as well as configuring the Z4 to my driving preferences. We were on our way in about an hour.
We can’t wait to take the car out on the Blue Ridge Parkway this spring and summer, and, with luck, return as autumn sets the hills ablaze with all of the colors of fall. There’s nothing quite like gliding along the winding roads with the top down—the wind in our faces and the golden light of the setting sun trailing in the rearview mirror. Life's about the journey not the destination - may we enjoy the ride for as long as we can!

HASSLE FREE - PERFECT BUYING EXPERIENCE For 45 years I have been loyal to Mercedes-Benz. My 2020 Mercedes- Benz was a lemon and, after 16 months of frustration, Mercedes-Benz authorized a buy-back. The person I dealt with at M-B corporate just did not care about my loyalty to their brand and did not value me as a customer.
My wife and I decided to look at other brands for our next purchase. I called BMW of Asheville and spoke with sales manager, Mark Miller. I explained the situation and made an appointment to come to the dealership. Upon arrival Mark was extremely and sincerely cordial. He expressed regret for my unacceptable experience with M-B and promised that he would win our loyalty for BMW and the BMW of Asheville dealership.
My sales associate was Alex Powel. No pressure and a genuine caring that we ended up with the best choice vehicle for our life style. He knows the history, detail and options of BMW and it is an educational experience to spend time with him. He is an expert in designing a special order vehicle. We still were not sure and made an appointment to return in two days.
Two days later we walk into the dealership and were greeted by Mark Miller who remembered both of our first names as well as our dog's name. We were beginning to feel valued and comfortable.
Alex took all the time necessary to answer our questions with accuracy and detail. He instilled a trust in the dealership and the BMW brand. He urged us not to purchase until we were comfortable with all aspects of the transaction.
Within one week we purchased a 430iX coupe and an X5. The purchases are attributable to the quality of vehicles, the trust we developed in the BMW Asheville staff and the negotiated price.
