I took my daughter there this Friday. For the most part, it is pretty typical of a a skating rink. There are a few things that I noticed that significantly reduced the enjoyment of the facilities.
Foot traffic congestion: The rink doesn't have passage all the way around. This means that all foot traffic in both directions is going through a very narrow walk way. This can be a real problem if you have gaggles of young people standing around gabbing, which is a 100% certainty when you are talking about a skating rink.
The sound system. It seems to make up for its lack of sound quality with volume. Deafeningly loud crackly squelching sound to the vaguely recognizable tunes to maybe 5 songs played on repeat. I know you can request songs but one would think that they would play a variety of music without prompting.
Lighting: There were periods of time where they shut off the lights on the rink, leaving it back lit by the lights from the concession stand. There were no lasers, or effect lighting involved, just a huge number of teenagers skating in the dark, unable to see if somebody fell down until they run over a hand or two.
Bathrooms: the women's bathroom (have no data on the men's room) is entered first by taking a sharp privacy corner... on skates... which leads STRAIGHT into a sink. I really can't think of anything more iffy than a 6 or 60 year old on skates rushing to the bathroom and encountering the inevitably wet floor.
There were however some things of merit to mention as well. The first being that the price was quite affordable. The employees, almost all were the expected teenagers, were polite and helpful (especially the young person running the skate rental). In general the feel of the place was one...
Read moreTook my family up there this past weekend. Started out as an ok experience but quickly turned into a very disappointing evening. I have never heard more rude or disrespectful staff. The dj was very rude and mouthing off over the microphone to children about punishing them and how they will sit put for as long as she wants them too and she said "and I'm very forgetful nowadays". The place was overcrowded for the size of the skating floor. There were multiple groups of people skating in a line of 3 or more and "whipping" the last person around the corners. Then someone else came over the mic and said that if everything wasn't off the floor it was getting thrown away. Well when I got there about 20 min after opening, all of the lockers were already filled and the tops of the lockers also filled. I personally had to bring in 5 skate bags. Instead of being told nicely that I can return my outside drink to my car. I was rudely told. "If you bring that in here Imma throw it away". I took 2 children who are obsessed with skating and have skated all over, and they both asked to leave within an hour of being there and asked me to never...
Read moreI grew up with a local roller rink in a small town so I had some assumptions on certain aspects and didn't hold them against my experience. I get the tweens hanging out and being the "seniors" of the rink amongst the younger crowds and that's to be expected. But the staff was too young and undertrained. We stood for 15 minutes at the door waiting to be admitted and pay. The credit card reader didnt work, thankfully I had cash. Inside the place was packed with no room for a beginner to learn. Even navigating around the arcade and lockers was a constant chaos of people. We retreated to get some pizza where the employee decided to take orders from favorites and eye batting girls ahead of myself and another standing in line. when we got our pizza there was nowhere to sit as more than half of the tables were reserved but not used and had to sit on the floor next to the bathrooms. My favorite part of the experience was pulling out of the parking lot. Typical rink atmosphere but abysmal staff and organization. Great place to drop off your unsupervised teen, horrible place for those...
