If you have any contact with Lynn at this location, put all communication in writing and mail it retaining one copy for yourself. After several conversations with her regarding my contract - including one where she refused to allow me to speak to Robbie - I had to file a BBB complaint to finally cancel my contract and, in the response, Robbie quoted Lynn as saying that I said "no one ever reads those" in reference to my contract which is not only a blatant lie but anyone who has ever even had a single conversation with me would had seriously doubted. It is unfortunate that Robbie doesn't seen to be taking the feedback from multiple complaints on this woman to heart but at least I'm finally done dealing with them. I'm out of stars to take away but the customer service continues to get worse. The last time I was in, one of the employees looked up my info and explained in detail that I could cancel this month since my contract renews next month. I called today and got someone named Lynn and asked to cancel my membership. She informs me that I have to wait until the end of next month to call or pay a termination fee. Seriously? You can't just put an end contract date in the computer for then? Of course not, their hoping that I'll forget to do it and they can pocket a little extra cash. Absurd. Unsurprisingly for the customer service at this location, she sounded rushed and annoyed and didn't even ask for a reason much less see if there was a way to change my mind. Rather supports the other reviewers comments about the lack of customer service and retention. BTW..we're loving 24 Hour Fitness on Abilene.
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy son and I really enjoyed going to Planet Fitness. The gym is clean, the machines are in good working order, and it is near our house. Friday July 31, 2015 when we went to workout, we were told that our membership was canceled. Apparently when our bank account number was entered, it was entered incorrectly and when Planet Fitness went to pull our membership fees, the bank came back with a message of āthat account does not existā. When we asked what we could do to correct this, we were told that there would be a $20 charge for each of us. We questioned why we were getting charged $20 when we had done what we were supposed to. We asked them to check the bank account number and they told us they could not check it as they could only see the last 4 digits. We then called the bank and they checked the records for the day that it was supposed to be pulled and the bank said that Planet Fitness did not try to pull from the bank on that day. Now confused, we asked to speak to the manager. The manager came over and we asked him how we could correct this. He told us that he could not change anything, only the owner is the only one that can make changes. We asked to speak to the owner and was told he is out of town. I asked if we could open another account and the manager told us that we were cancelled and we could not open another account. We were terminated and that is it. So the result of this review is that we have lost our membership to Planet Fitness through no fault of our own and cannot get it back. This is really sad that companies do business this way. I hope that this doesn't happen to very many people as it will definitely effect their membership. The end result is that I would like to have our memberships reinstated without a penalty for anyone. Everyone makes mistakes and that is a fact of life. The mistake can be repaired and everyone can move on. I don't think anyone needs to be mistreated because...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've had a membership and have been coming to this location for about 6 years. I comparison shop now and then and the monthly price remains the lowest, even with other gyms sign-up specials in the area. It is the least crowded of any nearby. It's clean and well kept. Staff is generally responsive and helpful.
There are no barbell freeweights, only dumbells. But, I've found I can accomplish what I need via barbells on the Smith machines. There is often a wait to get on one, however. They have enough other machines for every exercise I can think of - except a calf-exercise - which is odd to me.
I'd like to see an expanded free-weight section - Barbells (or at least more Smith Machines) and more dumbbell stations. But the facility has most of its space dedicated to cardio machines just like other gyms. It's good for me to know, and bad for others who don't, that building a muscular, lean physique has very little/nothing to do with cardio. My six-pack was entirely built in the kitchen, and my legs/butt were built doing squats.
Lastly, my only real and enduring complaint. I use the showers, which are way more time-effective before and after work. Occasionally, like one in four times, I get a nice warm shower throughout. Most times though, I shower with temperatures constantly fluctuating from ice-cold, to luke-warm. I have brought the issue up many, many times over the years. I even wrote to the corporate office about it at least once. Every time, they insist that repairs are just around the corner, soon, working on it, etc. For six years this has been a consistent falsehood. They simply will not fix the showers, and it's the one reason I continue to always look elsewhere for better deals.
I wish they'd at least be honest and say, "We aren't EVER going to fix the showers." I'll happily update this if it ever happens. Don't hold...
