I placed an order of a dining table Tuesday night in this store. Then I changed my mind because the table would not be a good fit for the dining room. I called the store the next morning to cancel the order, and eventually got an email saying they were "Unable to cancel the order". At the time of purchase, I thought AllModern was an independent store. Later I learned that it is an affiliate of wayfair. I have contacted the customer support of both AllModern and Wayfair for the cancellation, but they kept telling me that the dining table had been already pulled out from the warehouse, and it was being prepared for shipping. It's hard for me to believe this had happened overnight, and they could not provided any proof. Checked the order status online, it indicated that nothing had been shipped yet, even after a few days later. I don't understand why an order cannot be cancelled before being shipped. Even if it is being prepared for shipping, I don't understand why it could not be stopped. After spending time talking to a few customer support people of both AllModern and Wayfair, I learned that the only way to do this was to return the item, but I had to pay the shipping cost. This sounds really strange: the table was not shipped yet, but I had to pay the shipping cost to return it! Over the years, I have made many online purchases, and generally I don't want to leave any negative comments. I understand that it is hard to do business. But my experience with AllModern and Wayfair was much worse than unreasonable. Customers need to be aware of their cancellation and return policies. Do I need to pack it before I drop off? How should I pack it if needed? I told the customer service that the rug came in plastic bags when it first delivered. The lady form customer service told me that I just need to find a plastic bag to cover it.I told her that I only have black garbage bags at home. Is it okay to pack it this way? The answer I received is: Yes, black garbage bags can be used for packaging. I just need to cover the rug in black garbage bag and wrap it around with tape..!!! So, on my way to work this morning, I went to the FedEx store 15 minutes early. The staff told me that they couldn't accept such packaging and needed to spend $15 before tax to buy a box.I agreed because I was in a hurry to go to work. I was greeted smugly by what was presumed to be the design team after politely asking for assistance and mentioning I was ready to buy. Stacy was willing to help me make my purchase. She mentioned that I could not stack the 20% off sale price and my coupons which I was fine with so I did not use them. However, the items I was purchasing didnāt fall under the 20% sale and she did not mention it, allowing me to complete my purchase without utilizing my coupons. In addition, after the transaction was completed, I noticed there was a protection plan that I mentioned I did not want added to my order. After noticing both of these items, Alex was able to help adjust my order.
