If you are looking for Pokemon card singles, steer clear of Pokemaniacs. The employees do not know the market value of each card and are improperly pricing their cards. All of their singles are priced 50-200% OVER MARKET.
Every single card shop in the Austin area will sell you singles at Market. When I asked if they would price match market price, both employees did not understand what “at market value” meant. That’s a big problem for someone who is pricing these cards.
I understand charging a little more than market prices for singles since you are getting it right then and there, but not 50-200%.
If you are considering purchasing single Pokemon cards from pokemaniacs, check out every single card store in the area first. Most likely someone is going to have what you are looking for. If they don’t, take 5 minutes to watch a YouTube video on how to find and buy cards on eBay the right way.
I have purchased so many singles from this location in the past. It is such a shame that they chose to become the alpha scalpers in the Austin area.
Steer clear of Pokemaniacs, the local card shops will gladly sell you the cards you are looking for at a fair price. Don’t let this store take...
Read moreGave them 3 more stars for their amazing release of Mega. Original review below. I may be too critical. They are a store surviving in a mall. They got to do what they got to do.
I want to love this place. It’s really so close to being amazing. The people who work here are for the most part solid and very helpful. Sometime they seemed annoyed that you have questions, but I digress. The 1 star review is solely based on how they price their sealed product. It’s far far above msrp and far above market value on TCG or eBay. I would never say “go buy your product elsewhere” but… it’s kind of hard to not steer people towards a better deal online. For example. 151 tins (2 packs) for 40+ dollars!?!? They’re not even done releasing 151 product, what justifies that price? If you want a plush this place has it most likely. Their singles are picked over. But I’m sure it refreshes after “trade Friday” and oh by golly do they have Japanese, Korean and Chinese packs but buy beware… some of those packs only come with 3 cards. I’ll be back to see if anything’s changed in a few months. But I doubt it. This place has been for the impulsive who don’t mind overpaying for...
Read moreBeing a huge pokemon fan, I used to love this place. Although within the last few years and even today, I am completely dissatisfied. The prices are outrageous when I can get it better elsewhere, and obviously is catered to scalpers as nothing new is ever available except leftovers.
My biggest upsetness and why I usually like going to the store is the staff. I like to talk to other poke-enthusiasts. Although they don't know what they are talking about even if you CAN get one to talk to you. I'm so disheartened to see so many recent bad reviews that deal with staff and I agree.
Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy and believe it is ok if friends visit while on the clock, but today, 4/24/25 at 4pm, there was only one staff member available. She has a group of friends visiting and talking her ear off. Even when me and another customer came in, no greeting. I heard a Hello once and when I looked up, her friend handed over their phone to TALK. Even if you said hello or 'let me know if you need anything ' would've been nice. Yet no.
Pokemanics, save your store and hold your staff responsible, otherwise I'm sure you will continue to...
