I was sitting outside the store on a bench with my husband when one of the employees came outside for a smoke break. With no shame, he started a conversation with a customer who was also standing outside and said some pretty racist and offensive things before putting out his cigarette on the ground and going back inside to work. This gist of his remarks was that he was glad he had a job now where he wasn’t forced to be nice to black people like he was at his last job. (I won’t repeat his exact words or the full extent of his comments.) The customers he made the remarks to started laughing awkwardly about it a few minutes later after he was back inside and joked that they had no idea why would say racist things to them. We ended up going to a different convenience store for the drinks and snacks we were looking...

Abe’s Liquor in Avalon on Catalina Island was a total lifesaver for my beer run! They had everything I needed to stock up before heading back to my boat for the night.
