I've never had a problem with this location. I normally love them! Today, I went in to try to trade in some books. When I got up yo the counter the guy working (you could tell just did not want to be there today) he asked me if I'd ever sold wirh them before. I told him I had not, I'm not sure how the process works at all. He put my info in the system, gave me a ticket and walked away. Without telling me anything. There were a few other employees behind the counter and I was trying to figure out what was going on. Nobody would tell me anything, or really even speak to me. I ended up finding another employe at the other end of the store, she was very helpful in letting me know how the process worked (I wish I would've got her name, she was probably the only good thing about this whole experience). When i got the text saying that everything was ready, I went back to the counter, same guy was there. He told me I could get $9 in cash or $17 in store credit. (Now it pays to mention that I brought in ALOT of books. Some of them i know i could've got more for somewhere else, but like I said, I loved this store and wanted to do business with them) I started to text my husband to see if he'd want us to just see about getting the books back and we could go somewhere else. The man decided (on his own) that store credit was faster and easier, so that's what we were gonna do. I didn't even get words out of my mouth to say no thank you. He had already printed the slip and told me to just tell the cashier at check out that I had store credit. I am very disappointed with the employees at 2nd and charles in Beaumont, TX. Very rude. Very unhelpful. I hate that this happened, because now I don't even want to shop here anymore. If I could give them ZERO STARS I would!!! Im not sure what's going on with the employees here, but i do not see myself coming back here...
Read moreDISAPPOINTED I discovered 2nd & Charles about a year ago, and have purchased at least 50 books from them since then. I'm an 8th grade reading teacher and have supplied my students with many different options, varying reading levels and genres. I was so excited on my first several trips. The staff was so friendly and helped me pick out tons of novels for my classroom, and I got a 20% teacher discount. I have purchased books and movies for myself and my own children and did not even try to use the discount. Today, I bought 4 novels that I wanted for my classroom library. I was being friendly and mentioned that I read the novels and then bring them to my students. (Side note, sometimes I give them to students first.) My students and I enjoy sharing the excitement. We talk about the characters and plot and make valuable teacher-student connections. I believe this enhances the classroom experience for both of us. I read a lot of books (around 70 last year), many of which I wouldn't choose for myself, but to be able to share the experience with a student or encourage them to read and finish the novel. Many 8th graders get bored quickly and have a hard time finishing a book! Anyway, the clerk told me today that I couldn't get the discount if I was going to read them first! She justified this by saying that I was buying them for me and asked if I understood. I told her no, I do not understand. These books will be shared with my students and possibly even given to them. She gave me the discount anyway, but looked at me like I was shady the whole time. That made me so angry. I paid for my books and left quickly. I don't know that I'll go back. It's absurd to say that I can't read the books I share with...
Read moreThis is a trade-in second hand store. For your items they offer cash or store credit. They have a wide variety of items. I received reasonable prices for the first items I brought in. However, when I returned with an almost new keyboard and stand I experienced a different response. After you drop off your items you receive a text telling you they have an offer. You must go back to the store to get the actual offer. Upon returning there was no offer made. All I was told was the items were rejected. (This could be that the item is simply something they don’t sell in their stores.). When I asked for the keyboard back, I was told it had been put in the “free bin” and was no longer available. Never was I told that you would not get your items back if they didn’t buy it. In fact, when I spoke to someone on the phone prior to taking anything in, I asked if they accepted old cell phones. I was told yes, and if I didn’t like the offer, I could take the phones back and try to sell them at a kiosk in the mall that buys phones. (2nd and Charles is located in Parkdale Mall with an outside entrance.). Since I was told this, and the fact that you must return to the store for your offer, I certainly expected to have any rejected items returned to me. I will not return...
