My husband and I came in here twice looking for a dress shirt. Both times, we were immediately judged by our casual appearance. We were greeted shortly from different men who both snapped measurements around his neck and arm, touching and handling him without warning or consent. They handed him what they thought would work and basically tried dismissing us right after. Both men were very pushy in their opinions on how the shirt fit him "just perfect" so that they could get him out the door. This was especially true with the second guy, who was probably a decade or two older than the first.
The first guy didn't want us to try on at first, saying he guarantees his professional measurements will fit regardless of what the shirt fit is like. We had to pull teeth to get him to finally tell us that they have some try-on shirts, and it was a pain to try and get him to bring us different sizes. It felt like a little argument every time we'd suggest a different neck size, fit, or sleeve length. He didn't want to let us try a bigger neck, saying the neck needs to be snug. Yet he also wanted him in a slim fit. He did bring longer sleeve lengths in the end, at least. We eventually gave up and just got the one that seemed better than the others he was giving us. It ended up being too small. But a good length and perfect on the neck. He was at least nice about things and answered all of our questions. He even took the time to show us the suits when we asked.
We brought the first shirt in for an exchange. The second guy, after measuring, started taking all the pins and packaging off a shirt and handed it to him without a word. He put him in a shirt that was too wide everywhere (gave him a much wider fit AND a wider neck size). But he refused to let him try the sleeve length my husband previously had chosen, saying the current sleeves sat perfectly where they should. Sleeve length also dictates how long the entire shirt is, and he has a long torso. So - too wide and too short to stay tucked. This second employee bulldozed right through us. He was extremely short with us, absolutely refused to consider anything different from what he gave us, and made us feel so small about the sleeve length request that we didn't even feel we could ask about a smaller neck size. We felt pressured beyond measure to just take it and get out. He was obviously pissed he wasn't getting a sale from us. We will be returning this shirt for a refund.
Why couldn't a place that claims to give a "perfect fit" just give him the fit he needed instead of arguing with us that their opinion was the only opinion? Especially when 2 different employees had the opposite opinion on everything.
I ended up ordering from their website. We received it yesterday and everything fits him like an absolute dream, and stays tucked in beautifully! Yes, the arms are ever-so-slightly long, but he doesn't mind, he'll have a jacket over them anyway, and no one will ever tell.
We actually bought 2 full suits complete with shirts from the website - don't judge what someone will buy based off their current outfit, guys. No way were we going to ask for a full suit if we had to struggle this badly for a shirt.
The second trip in, we also had a new pair of pants we wanted hemmed and tailored to him. The salesman basically laughed at the pants we had, and told us they'll only be able to hem them. We didn't like the pants, but we needed a specific color for an event and even these were hard to find. The seamstress was brisk and impatient and it was hard to communicate with her. She didn't even talk to my husband or ask what he was wanting. She just told him to turn around, asked if that's where he wears the pants and before we knew it, she had marked on his pants, told the salesman that my husband was wearing the pants in the wrong place, and left. Wait, what?
Unless you look like you're made of money, don't bother with these people. Really nice clothing, though! Just buy it online unless you feel...
Read moreI needed the suit as I was the Best Bride's Man for my best friend's wedding. The groom and I went in to be fitted for his wedding several months before the event. The person that helped us had absolutely no idea what he was doing. His measurements were not accurate and every time I tried to ask him about it or point out that something he had me try on wasn't fitting well, he did not care and it proved when almost all of my suit came back not correct. Additionally, the other girl that was at the store that night was also extremely rude. When I picked up my suit, the girl was also very rude and brushed off every concern that I had.
Almost no pieces of my suit was correct or wearable. For starters, the white shirt was extremely too big. It was so big that I could not wear it, so I had to go to Kohl's and buy a new shirt that I could wear. The pants were also way too big that they could not fit around my waist. When I had brought that up to the girl at the store (who was very unfriendly and did not want to help), she said that the waist was adjustable so it would be fine. It was not fine. I had it go as tight as it could go, and my pants were still falling off of me. I contacted the store who looked at my account and said that the pant size they gave me would never have worked for my waist size. He said there was nothing they could do with the pants and when checked in the back, said there was no other pants in the store that I could wear. He said that he could have some shipped to the store by the next day, which was not going to work because I was leaving town for the wedding. Thankfully, Ray saved the day and told me to come in with the pants, and he would adjust them for me. I was able to wear the pants thanks to him and his help! As for the jacket, it worked very nicely at first...until I was walking out the door for pictures when the button randomly fell off. Obviously, this threw a huge wrench in our plans for the entire wedding. Because my jacket was now unusable, none of the other men in the wedding, including the groom, was able to wear their jackets because of this. I was extremely disappointed in the poor quality of the jacket. Literally the only thing that I could wear (thanks to the adjusted pants) was the vest. I had no complaints about the vest. I had other shoes to wear, so I didn't even need the included shoes. Considering that almost everything was incorrect with my suit, it was extremely disappointing that I feel all of this could have been avoided. It was all way too much money that I paid for only being able to use the vest. I'm so glad I paid $300 for a...
Read moreTake it from a consultant out in D.C. who wears a suit on a daily basis that these guys sell average products at a high price.
About a year and a half ago, I bought $1.5k worth of business clothing from this location while I was attending school in the area. The salesman was a bit pretentious, he sold me poor-fitting classic fit shirts despite knowing I was a slim fit (I confirmed with another Men's Wearhouse), and the tailor only did an okay job at a high price. Unfortunately, being a college student at the time, I didn't know any better.
For those looking for value, avoid chain suit stores (e.g. Men's Wearhouse, Jos A. Bank), and shop around for well-built suits of any brand, and have them tailored. I've heard good things about Suit Supply but haven't yet bought anything from them myself.
For shirts, buy them from Charles Tyrwhitt or T.M. Lewin (who sell shirts down to the half inch compared to Men's Wearhouse who sells shirts down to two inches). I've also heard good things about J. Crew and Brooks Brothers with Brooks Brothers being the top of the bunch, but as far as price-to-value goes, Charles Tyrwhitt and T.M. Lewin are likely your best bets. Note that they do have slight differences in fit and collar/cuff style (unless this changed recently). Tyrwhitt shirts are fused (or semi-fused), whereas Lewin shirts are unfused.
For those with a higher budget, get everything bespoked at a reputable tailor. This will likely yield the best result, but it does come with a rather heavy price tag so I only recommend it to those with money to blow or who wear a suit on a regular basis. Of course, if you're in that budget range already, you're probably not reading reviews on...
