Host Sean and Server Tina were great, as were the bartenders who provided great service while we waited for our table. You'll read a lot about how cool it is to cook yourself on this incredibly hot stone, and it is. But I'll focus this review on the food and service.
Ok, this place is awesome! I would definitely go again. But I learned a few things that'll I'll do differently.
My wife and I shared two appetizers.. the crab dip and a soup sampler. The Soupalicious flight of 3 soup samples is EXCELLENT. Seriously, the Lobster Bisque and the New England Clam Chowder were the best I've ever had (even compared to top-rated Boston restaurants). The French Onion Soup was equally delicious. The crab dip with fried pita slices was good, but very heavy. Next time, we'll EACH get our own Soupalicious and skip the crab dip.
For our entrées... my wife had the Sea Wars (sea scallops and shrimp bubbler). I had the sirloin and added a lobster tail. The shrimp bubbler was just ok. A bit too spicy for my wife's liking, and they were in their own little cast iron pan sitting on their own HOT stone. The scallops were already on the stone and had been turned over already when Tina brought out our meals. By the time you're done checking/turning over your scallops, the shrimp was overcooked. (And I'm NOT a fan of leaving the shrimp tails on.) Next time, she'll just get an order of Scallops. They were perfectly seared and seasoned
My sirloin was already on the stone when Tina brought it out, as was the lobster tail (tail shell split, meat pulled out onto the stone). I believe the stones are salted with sea salt before the proteins are placed on the stone. My lobster tail was MUCH too salty; ill skip the lobster tail next time. But my sirloin was out of this world! I think I would have enjoyed it more with sautéed onions and horseradish, but we had their "casino" butter which was good.
The desserts sounded and looked great, but we were so full from our meal we skipped dessert.
Definitely try this place. You...
Read moreWith respect to Longhorn Steakhouse, we were set to eat there for dinner on a Saturday night during dinner rush. They told us that a two hour wait would be our fate.
My Beloved had other plans.
Pretty soon, we were driving towards Beavercreek (Ohio) to get in the line for the long wait to experience Black Rock Bar and Grill. The same wait time, but we found an opening at the bar, and since it was the two of us, we decided to eat and drink at the bar.
Our hostess could've been more welcoming and friendly as we ordered their shrimp appetizer with garlic bread. It was unlike any appetizer we've had at other restaurants, and it hit our seafood loving palate quite well. From there, it was a road map to carnivore heaven as our main course came out.
In case you're wondering what the "black rock" part of the restaurants name would fit in, I can assure you that our meal would be cooked on a 770° hot black rock. Rare, medium rare, and well done was in our hands, not the cooks in the back. Our hostess gave instructions on how long to cook it, how to prepare the meat, and what to add when it is cooking . From there, you grill as you like with only yourself to blame if it doesn't come out right.
The choice of beer, the cocktails, and the side items is worth various trips to enjoy each visit. We even grabbed an apple desert to take home with us because why not! We spent over $100 dollars for the experience and the meals, but this was a good reason to break the bank and enjoy the moment.
I write this with happy taste buds, a content stomach, and a vow to revisit this place later this year. Plus, as much as we like Longhorn and what they bring to the inner carnivore lover inside of us, this chain of restaurants kept the quality and service high so it didnt feel one bit like an Applebee's and more like a "try this once" type of meal.
Get to Black Rock, and I assure you the smile on your face when your meal is finished will last long after you rest your body for the night. Your taste buds will thank you for...
Read moreI had takeout and also dined in the restaurant. Unfortunately, I have not been impressed with either experience. For takeout, I had the Dynamic Duo (Sizzling Satisfaction) Medium Well (Slightly Pink Center), Monster Lobster Bisque, and Mac & Cheese. I was pretty excited but was let down by the lack of flavor and amount of food. It definitely wasn't worth the cost in addition to it being an overall different experience with takeout and presentation - unfortunately, I didn't really enjoy the food. When I dined in I had the road house burger. It sounded really good and also added bacon because well thought that'd make it even better. I thought the burger was just okay. The menu states crispy onion rings but you actually get one large onion ring - this was a bit of a let down. I also thought there was lack of overall flavor as in maybe the Angus beef patty itself didn't have any above average flavor. I was also disappointed that the bacon didn't add anything to this burger. I expected it to take it up a level. I also got a few drinks during happy hour at $5 each which wasn't bad and the happy hour went from 11am-6pm - that's a decent amount of time. The drinks themselves were average in my opinion. I had a margarita, sangria, and a vodka and cranberry. I don't recommend the well liquor which was used for my vodka cranberry. I believe top shelf was used for my margarita but it was a bit too sweet and really needed to be colder. I've had better sangria which seemed a bit bland. It was pretty smokey in the venue due to the steaks. I will say maybe the steaks are the saving grace here. If I revisit, which I'm not sure that I will, I'll try the steak and see if my mind is...
