Let me just say, I almost never leave reviews BUT I want to spare others from wasting their time and fuel bringing clothes to Clothes Mentor to sell.
I loaded up a TON of clothes to sell at Clothes Mentor and Platos Closet. I did a little research beforehand, discovered Platos Closet is better for younger styles and Clothes Mentor is better for more mature styles. I had a good mixture of styles including some younger stuff, so I decided to start at Platos closet.
My experience at Platos was great. I was greeted immediately and in and out within just a few minutes. Went back after I got the text, they purchased several items from me and recommended I go next store to sell more items.
I start carrying my items next door. No one greeted me. They all remained behind the counter while I struggled a little to get in the door carrying my heavy bins of clothes. I stood there for a minute before a girl at the counter finally asked another girl to come help me. She briefly explained how things would work and I went on my way. Got the text a little while later so I went back in and she looked at me and said “Sorry, we’re gonna have to pass today” Which was very shocking considering I brought in over 200 articles of clothing and shoes, most of which were name brand. So, either she didn’t look through anything, they only buy items that are basically brand new, or they only buy VERY select brands and styles. They shouldn’t advertise that they “buy your gently used clothes”, they should just be honest and say “we buy your recently purchased Old Navy, J. Crew, WHBM, Etc...”
I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because the store was at least clean and nice and I didn’t go there shop, just to sell, so maybe it’s good for shopping?
I will never waste my time taking clothes in again to sell after this. Complete waste of expensive...
Read moreI dropped off my items, went next door then came back, looked around, waited close to 2 hours and the employees were talking about how they didnt want to do the buys and then barely browsed over the first couple items on top. Then I quickly got the text my items were ready, when I said I was ready to check out AND pick up you could tell the employees were EMBARRASSED that I heard the entire conversation and they bought nothing.. after leaving I tried to call and ask when I could see a manager and was hung up on repetitively. Not to mention I brought the EXACT items back and 11 items were bought. Everyone knows these 3 shops are a game of chance based on weather the employees feel like doing their jobs. You literally have to keep bringing the same things back. Also, when my husband picked up my items he was assaulted and almost robbed in the parking lot( Platos manager is aware) But the fact that these shops employee young adults, Pay CASH on the spot, Carry and Sell LUXURY Items AND DONT HAVE CAMERAS to protect their customers is APPALING. THEN. He was only give 1 out of 2 of my bags. The bag they still had conveniently had my Victorias secret, Nike, North Face, Ect that they happened to not buy thats IN season AND current. Myself, friends and family have bought and shoped Mentors and Platos alot over the last few years but with new similar shop opening, we may take our...
Read moreEdit 6/30/2025: I got a call from Darcel to follow up on my frustration from a few days ago. She was receptive and did make things right. To be honest I never expected anyone to reach out to me to address the issue I had, so I was impressed by that and am satisfied with the result. I don't know too many businesses that would go out of their way to make things right.
Original: I originally gave this store 5 stars but after today I knocked off 4 stars. I went in to sell some clothes and a purse. I was offered a little over $40, which was good for me. Then the woman who was cashing me out said the purse I was selling was not in the best condition and decided to knock the whole thing down to $24 total after the first offer. I understand you all need to price and sell items accordingly, but next time don't give a customer an offer and then change your mind for a lower price as they are literally cashing out. It was pretty upsetting. When I expressed frustration about the situation, the woman cashing me out told me "Sorry you...
