Absolutely Unacceptable Behavior from Management – Bellingham LazyBoy
Let me be crystal clear: this review isn’t about the hardworking floor staff—many of whom were kind to my wife during her time working at LazyBoy in Bellingham. This is about the blatant, unethical, and possibly illegal actions taken by upper management at this store.
My wife recently left LazyBoy after being offered the opportunity of a lifetime—her dream job. She planned to turn in the store key, as any responsible adult would. We had no intention of keeping it. But then the General Manager decided to flex some power in the pettiest way possible—by emailing my wife and telling her they would withhold her paycheck until the key was returned. Let me remind you: in the state of Washington, if an employee quits or is terminated, their final paycheck must be paid no later than the next scheduled payday. Period. And withholding a paycheck unless the employee has signed an agreement explicitly allowing it? Also not legal. No such document was ever presented to my wife. Ever.
When payday came, guess what? No check. Not delayed. Not pending. Gone. And even now—after that payday has passed—we still haven’t received it.
So I had to contact an attorney. Then personally walk into the store to return the key and speak to the GM—who conveniently wasn’t in. Again, the floor staff was professional and kind, but I asked for the HR number to escalate the issue. Not surprisingly, it was not given to me. It felt like they were trying to keep us from getting help. But not long after I left, my wife magically received an email: “Your check is in the mail.”
This is not just bad management—this is abuse of authority and a serious violation of labor law. LazyBoy as a company should be ashamed that one of their locations is being run in this manner.
To the GM of the Bellingham store: you may think you’re protecting a business, but all you're doing is burning bridges and damaging reputations. My wife left peacefully—you should have done the same.
Do better. And to others reading this—be careful who...
Read moreI had a very pleasant experience with Kylie. I found a chair that I loved, but I didn’t want the electrical cord trailing along the floor of my living room so I decided not to get it. Then she called me to see if I was still interested and I told her the reason why I wasn’t going to purchase it and she came up with a solution. I had no idea that the chair came with a rechargeable battery that would sit underneath the chair. So I dropped by the store to see how it worked and bought the Apollo remote controlled chair. Kiely was very knowledgeable about the chair and told me all about the different warranties I could purchase. I don’t usually buy warranties but this was for five years and also protected against cat scratches so I purchased it. Plus the chair was on sale for 40% off with free delivery so I think I got a...
Read moreAfter a recent purchase of 2 recliners, I paid $200 delivery fee which obviously was a tad excessive, the recliners made alot of noise; which wasn't the case when I tried them out in the showroom. For some reason the only thing that can't be returned in the 21st century is furniture, which seems strange since people can even return swimsuits. It's a disgrace that La-Z-Boy takes advantage of old ladies, there very unethical pactices will hopefully cause them to go out of business. Thanks to much superior furniture stores like Nebraska furniture mart & Rooms-to-go. When requesting to return an item a 10% or 15% restocking fee is the standard. Please don't waste your time with La-Z-Boy. I will do my best to pass the word and drive business...
