Belmont Bookshop — Local services in Belmont

I will start by saying we have always enjoyed visiting the Belmont bookshop, especially with our kids who love the children’s area. Unfortunately, something very upsetting happened during our most recent visit that I feel obligated to share, especially for families.

After checking out, my 4-year-old daughter gently petted the store dog on the head. The dog suddenly stood and lunged toward her face in an aggressive way. Thankfully, no contact was made, but it was close enough to seriously frighten both of us. The owner’s husband was present and witnessed the incident, but said nothing. When I voiced concern and said the dog nearly bit my child, the owner became extremely defensive and dismissive, which only added to the distress of the situation.

It’s deeply upsetting that the owner showed ZERO concern for a child’s safety. I understand people love their pets, but when you choose to have a dog in a public space—especially one frequented by children—there’s a responsibility to ensure everyone is safe and to respond with compassion if something goes wrong.

This is an incredible book store! My family has been coming since they opened over a year ago. They do an amazing job hosting events and partnering with the local community. They've teamed up with other businesses to host themed book clubs where you get to enjoy the book and visit another business you may not have before (like whiskey tasting at the jailhouse and throwing the first pitch at a baseball game!). They've hosted game nights, which are a lot of fun as well, and have a good selection of beers for game night! They've had local artists decorate their shop. The painted kids stairs up to the treehouse are especially cute! Each stair is painted by a different artist based on a children's book. I highly recommend visiting, and their rewards program is well worth it! (Plus, they have the best bookshop dog! We love seeing her when we visiting and our son loves to sneak...

This bookshop is an absolute gem!

Hands down, the cutest bookstore I’ve been to in ages. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff is not only incredibly friendly but also super knowledgeable about books. They really know how to make you feel at home. For those looking to connect with others, they offer a wide variety of book clubs - such a great way to meet people and engage with the community.

The shop also has a delightful kids’ corner, cozy reading nooks, and a lovely outdoor space perfect for enjoying a good book when the weather’s nice. The carefully curated selection of books makes even just browsing a joy.
