Honeycomb Cafe — Restaurant in Belmont

In town visiting and wanted to grab some breakfast. Wanted to try this place it looked cute and the reviews seemed pretty good. Service was good but the food was pretty blah. Ordered the crab bennie, forage toast and avocado toast. The avocado toast was for my child and she didn’t want eggs just avo really, asked if there was a different version of it or maybe a kids size cause we didn’t want eggs. The eggs were just left off and still charged the same price for the normal avo toast. Could have accommodated that a little better but is what it is. The poached eggs on the bennie and forage toast were completely cold and made the rest of the dish cold in turn making it pretty off putting. The poached eggs are definitely made in advance then added on the dishes but certainly not kept warm which sucks. The restaurant was full and we were trying to get in and out in a resonable time frame so I didn’t want to pester the server and send food back then wait. We didn’t really have the time so we just ate what we could. Ordered a coffee and it was just super watered down so traded it in for a peach lavender lemonade which was not a peach lavender lemonade at all. It was pink minute made lemonade from the gun no peach at all with a lavender spring added on top, pretty disappointing when you have something else in your mind. Typically I wouldn’t leave a review I’d just go on my way and be like “ok tried that place check, not again” but the overall food experience for the price of $73 after tip is disappointing considering I’ve worked as a server and a bartender my whole life and I get things here and there but you guys need to fix up that food cause for the price and what we got there’s just really no excuse for all that and the lemonade just being a complete lie, come on 😂. Just do better with the food cause the place it self is cute and the service...

Breakfast at Honey Comb Cafe in Downtown Belmont . Saw Some Kayakers on the river chilling in a circle as the current flowed(thought to myself “COOL AS A Cucumber”) on my way to get a Refreshing Cucumber Fresco @honeycombcafenc

Enjoyed a light breakfast of Seasonsl Oats soufflé vs my usual , and a Delicious Cocktail.

Christian at front Greeting and seating, she is always cheerful and pleasant.

Jacob at the Bar serving delightful drinks and smooth conversation, he really knows everyones name and makes it a point introduce guest to each other.

Rachel assisting with the bartending and serving always a pleasure.

Michael assures that we enjoy our experience at Honey Comb Cafe

Kristen serves our meals and is genuinely attentive, plus provides me with Ideas to splatter or drip some paint for effect on my watercolor sketch.

Its all a team effort here and cheerful atmosphere, probably why I visit 2-3 days a week and sometimes in a row.

So grateful for Chef Patrick, Chad, and Seth for there Gastronomic & Mixology creations. They also have an Excellent Dinner Multi-course Restaurant by the Railroad Crossing called @heirloomrestnc

Nice looking spot but the food seems hit or miss. My wife had the chicken and waffles and I opted for the almost difficult to get wrong staple of biscuits and gravy. The chicken and waffles comes with hot honey chicken but the hot honey that we were served was honey mixed with a vinegar based hot sauce... It was very strange! Vinegar isn't something I'd want with a sweet/savory dish like chicken and waffles. Hot honey isn't just honey + hot sauce. The waffle was really good had a nice light crunch on the outside with a good chew to the center but, vinegar, really?

For the biscuits and gravy I received 1 biscuit though the menu says 2 buttermilk biscuits (I just noticed this while writing the review 😂) anyways!.. the biscuit was pretty dense and flour heavy. No buttery, crispy goodness just an average or sightly under biscuit. I expected more for the price but now I know that I was supposed to receive 2 biscuits for that price #Brightside.

The gravy was different but not necessarily bad it didn't really do it for me. I saw a review on Yelp that mentioned the sausage tasting weird so maybe it's just sausage gravy made with weird tasting sausage. My 2 over medium eggs were cooked to order and tasted good and I would definitely eat these potatoes again!

I would recommend this place for a brunch gathering where drinks/socializing are the focus and light bites are second thought but for a sit down start of the day breakfast I feel like honeycomb cafe...
