I use this pet store for live food, reptiles, a rabbit and puppy. The staff is nice and knowledgeable about the animals they sell. Never had issues with the live food they sell. I purchased a rabbit there it lived for 6 yrs. then became very sick. Found out it was a hereditary thing probably born with. The poor thing suffered though for 4 weeks before symptoms showed up. I get pet store couldn't of known this at the time just makes me wonder if they get animals from reputable, safe, healthy breeders. Next my daughter purchased a puppy. The pet store had the puppy for at least 4 weeks before we could take her home. Cost was over 400.00 but she got vaccines, spade, etc... The week after we brought her home we noticed she was scratching a lot. My daughter visited 5x per week til we brought her home she said she noticed that in pet store when visiting. She is young didn't think much about because she didn't know much at the time. So we checked the obvious mites, fleas, tics etc. Also we have another dog no issues with him. We spoke with the pet store about allergies and they agreed maybe it was the food. So we went back and forth with costly foods. I noticed around her eyes under her fur was red same with inside of ears. Made appt with vet. Diagnosis Demodex mites passed onto her via mother. Poor dog has mange, scratches a lot, obviously uncomfortable. So about 500.00 later for foods, vet bills, meds and a sick uncomfortable puppy I am pissed. Pets Plus should have noticed this she was there for 4 wks at least why didn't they see she was scratching all the time? We noticed within a day or 2. She was back and forth to their vet on 2 occasions we know of. So with the vet was idiot or pets plus don't care. I am not happy about the bills we incurred what i am really mad at is the puppy suffering. So why i wrote this review is to warn people when you buy a puppy there please take it to the vet for a thorough check up just to avoid what our poor puppy had...
Read moreI've been here a few times because the location I used to go to is no longer open. It's been clean (for a pet store) and most of the employees are lovely to deal with. They carry my brands of food (Acana/Orijen and Verus) so I love that. I wish their reptiles were kept better and I'm not TOO keen on the sale of puppies but that's not in my control. The puppies are normally happy and healthy looking enough, though a little too young to be away from their mother. There is one girl though, who I've made note of I'm 2 of my trips, who probably shouldn't be working with animals. The first time she was ignoring customers who clearly needed her help and she was kind of rude. Okay, maybe a 1 time thing... possibly a bad day for her. The 2nd time though, I saw her doing the same stuff and then later, she was cleaning up after dog and her litter of puppies.... She was yelling at them, shooing the puppies away from the door a little too hard and she stepped on one of the puppy's paws. She was clearly flustered and got angry at the puppy for "being in the way" and "not listening". It's a puppy, for gods sake... it doesn't know better and it's excited to attention.
I have worked with animals for 19 years. I work with dogs and puppies myself (I'm a groomer)... I know it's really hard sometimes but if you can't handle it, you shouldn't be working with them. Heck, I even worked at a different location of Pets Plus years ago. I had to walk away because I almost said some not so nice things to her in front of young children. I will be noting her name next time and speaking to her manager. If she is still there after that and her attitude isn't better I will no longer be...
Read moreWe were looking at a cat for adoption here on a Saturday night. We were told we could have her and that we could pick her up Thursday bc she needed to be seen by a Vet. She was very skinny and we were told it was her breed and that she only likes cheap food! Thursday came we called to see if we could take her home and were told yes. We brought her home Thursday night she didn't eat and knew this might happen. Come Saturday morning she still wouldn't eat so we opened some tuna for her she started to eat and we heard loud crunching! We opened her mouth and saw all her back teeth were rotted! We took her right to the vet and was told she needed her teeth removed and they drew blood and gave her meds. We made an appointment to have her teethe done on Thursday. Monday night she started going down hill fast. We called a vet and took her Tuesday night and we were told she had so many abscesses that she was in renal failure. So how could a vet check her less then 5 days ago and not see how bad this poor girls teeth were but to sign a paper and say she's in good health is beyond me! They say there helping animals by adopting them to good home but in the end they make their money and were out of a sweet cat who just wanted a home! Enjoy my $50 adoption fee and the $30 worth of cat food they said she liked and never touched! Needless to say we are now looking for a new pet shop for our other animals needs!...
