------------------------ UPDATE below Review About a week and a half ago, i took my son into the store to check out a baby whites tree frog. We were shocked to find the poor tiny baby had died and was lying in the middle of the tank, mouth wide open, limbs extended out, in an arrid environment, (it should be kept at a min 60 - 80% humidity)... I went back in this evening to see the condition of the isopods for sale and almost all were dead on their shelves ? I took a look at the reptiles in their enclosures and this tiny baby crested gecko is sitting in an arid environment, you can see the coco coir is totally dry, yet 3 of the staff were socializing by the cash register. These animals deserve better than what they are receiving, this is terrible treatment and terribly small enclosures for some larger animals. I'm ordering from Chewy from now on. UPDATE: After submitting this review, my son asked to return to the store because he was incredibly concerned for the animals health and well-being... despite, the pet supplies plus account 'owner' replying to my review, requesting I call the general store number to discuss further details, it seems nothing has changed to improve the care of the amphibians and reptiles.
We were shocked to find Dead mice left in the enclosures of the ball pythons, even a piece of a dead mouse was even left sitting in a water dish, and black moldy aspen bedding underneath a corner water dish of another enclosure. You dont have to have a Phd in Herpetology to understand a piece of a dead mouse sitting in stagnant water can cause harmful bacterial growth for an animal. A Pacman frog needs high humidity, (easily read on the information tag under the enclosure), yet the coco coir was totally dry. Baby Crested Gecko still left in a dry coco coir environment, it's eyes are fading in color and clarity, it is clearly not well...
When bringing our concerns to the manager, she matter of factly stated the animals were misted twice a day, once in the morning and once before closing and they would be misted before closing, shortly... totally dismissing the lack of humidity we pointed out and repeatedly brought up the need for higher humidity in conversation. In fact she completely passed accountability, stating the kids are in charge of misting, I am not.
THERE CLEARLY IS SOMETHING WRONG with these enclosures - perhaps the basking bulb is too intense, perhaps these babies were placed in the wrong enclosures - easy mistake for an untrained, simple minded employee, as it's a simple switch of the tag of the previously housed animal... but for things to persist after a review and after these issues have been brought to the staff and manager's attention?! This shameless neglect of exotic animals is inhumane. The previous manager, Alexis, made sure the staff was educated and saw that all employees took exceptional care of the animals housed in the store.
This isn't a simple issue of training and education... to care for the animals housed in the store, one must be able to actually have the emotional capacity to care of an animal's well being, which clearly they do not. If they did, they would look at an animal care sheet or perhaps utilize the INTERNET to search and find additional information on optimal care for reptiles, amphibians, etc.
I DO NOT WISH to receive a generic, thoughtless reply - instead, use the time it would take to copy and paste a reply to my review, and CORRECT THE ISSUES REPORTED. MIST the reptiles, remove dead mice as they are rotting in the ball python tanks, edit your standard care document for staff by adding additional misting requirements until you figure out what is wrong for each enclosure... I am looking to make a formal complaint with the proper authorities and share this info with the appropriate...
Read moreVery disappointed to see that the horrors of pet store hit this one in town. 3 cages with no water full in the waters bottles. The Guinea pig cage, the water bottle knocked to the ground and empty. Upon bringing it to the managers attention, no reaction or response. Seems like they didn’t even want to help. It broke my heart to see how thirsty the 3 different hamster cages and Guinea pig cage was with no water. I wouldn’t leave till it was replaced and they were dying of thirst.
I didn’t only leave sick to my stomach after seeing how this pet store is caring for the animals they are selling but really for how long this how been going on for because this isn’t the first time I have seen this there. If your workers and shift managers aren’t allowed to help out with the animals, why are you selling them!! I recall coming in here before you guys were downsizing the store and seeing a bunch of dead beta fish on display. Where is the inspection department when you need them now. Hopefully after seeing this review...
Read moreJust made me a customer for life! I’ve never shopped at this store/location before. I called them in a scramble about 2 months ago looking for a specific food for one of our pets (Royal Canin Feline Wet Food. . Everywhere was sold out of it. EVERYWHERE. The kind girl/woman on the phone said that she could take down my name and number and call me when they get a shipment in. I received a voicemail from Jessica yesterday afternoon notifying me that they received the product I was looking for and would keep it on hold until they heard from me. I had completely forgot about it. I called back this morning and said I’d pick it up soon! When I arrived at the store this evening, I was greeted with the same kindness and professionalism from the young lady working the front. I did not get her name unfortunately. Thank you so much for you’re kindness to all. Will...
