Came in for a battery change, left with damage to a new watch band and no new battery.

Individual who worked on my watch scratched my watch band while opening it. Then the individual tried to open the case back and after trying multiple tools, told me he wasn't able to open it. Both watch band and watch case back scratched.

I've been to this watch shop four times already: first two times were unsuccessful due to "back in 10 minutes" experiences as other reviewers have noted. third time I came in was for a different watch, but I was told the shop was too busy to take on the job fourth time was the experience I described above

I really wanted to give this watch shop a shot, but after these experiences and even seeing how unorganized the workbench is (tools scattered everywhere, watches being worked on on top of other metal parts, etc) -- this last experience confirmed that I cannot recommend going here. Russell Chatman is the owner. This place is a one-stop shop for vintage/antique watch and jewelry sales and repair. Mr. Chatman is a pure gem (no pun intended) to work with. He makes customers walk out with a smile on their faces.

He and his wife started out selling vintage jewelry out front, on the sidewalks of Telegraph Ave. He now owns the shop near where they were street vendors.

I am grateful that I came into this store by the recommendation of my daughter who is a student at Cal. It’s obvious that Russ knows his craft and does the work out of pure love. He fixed a Franck Mueller automatic that’s been erratic for a while. If you have any cranky automatic, Russ is the guy to trust with your piece.
