On August 19th I ordered Trusses and Rimboard for my home construction. At the recommendation of the staff I opted to have the them delivered directly to my jobsite, because they did not have a delivery driver on staff that was legally allowed to carry a load that heavy. After several weeks of nothing happening with the order I returned to the Big Rapids Menards attempting to sort things out. I was told the rimboards had been delivered, they had not. And my truss order was just the 2 gable trusses and did not include the 19 other trusses that I had also ordered and paid for at the exact same time.
I also ordered 92 5/8 inch precut 2x6. The intention of purchasing precut boards is so that you do not have to measure or cut them, you just lay out a wall and start nailing them together on 16inch centers. I began assembling them and found out that not only were the precut studs I ordered not 92 5/8 inch, but varied between 92 1/2 and 92 3/4 resulting in over 1/4 inch gap in some places between the stud and the top and bottom plates. I took pictures of the incorrect measurement on the boards, and the resulting unacceptable gap between load bearing studs and the wall plates.
When I brought this to the attention of menards however, they didn't really care about the variation in the boards. In fact one of the responses I got from them was :
"We measured our stock and all of them were at the precut lengths"
That's great, but it doesn't help me with my issues and the variations in the defective product they sold me. It is defective because it does not meet the specifications they sell them by.
Not only did I pay extra to not have to measure and cut the boards, but then I had to measure and cut all my precuts to the shortest length board. I could have waited and tried to resolve things with menards, but as I discovered with my trusses that could take days or weeks.
Back to the trusses that I ordered on August 19th. They finally arrived September 29th. The order was completed in full, but took several trips back and forth to the store dealing with their inept staff, who seem to struggle with all their computer input tasks despite that software being a large portion of their work load for the day. I have a picture of someone else's order that was sitting in their lumber yard, who had ordered their trusses on September 4th,two weeks after I ordered mine and received them weeks before I received mine
When the driver finally delivered my trusses, he refused to disconnect his truck trailer and forced my 70 year old father and I to unload them by hand.
I will not return to the Big Rapids Menards, and probably not any of their other stores after...
Read moreMy name is Horace and I need to tell you about the absolute WORST SHOPPING DAY OF MY LIFE. On Thursday 9/15, I was in a check out line along with several other people. The gal running the register was clearly in no hurry. She began a conversation with the Lady she was ringing up, the more she talked to her, the longer the conversation became. Too, this lady had a small dog in her cart, so the cashier decided she liked the dag and stopped what she was doing and went around and begin playing with this dirty dog, petting it and rubbing her hands all over it. ( Come on, she will then handle other people's merchandise after handling this dirty dog.???) When I said something the cashier became upset with me then finally went back to checking this lady out. Once she checked her out and it came my turn she told me she would not check me out, and threw her hands up in the air. I asked for a manager, which she then called for. Some young lady came over who claimed to be a manager, however, she certainly didn't act like one. She also seemed unconcerned about the whole thing. Seriously, what kind of people are you hiring?? I built a good size addition on to my house over the last couple of years, and have spent well over $50,000. at this store, and have never had this kind of experience. Too, over this duration of time, I have been in this store many times. Then, to add to the whole matter, 2 other people who were in line behind me left and went to other lines. They also saw what was going on and got tired of waiting. YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS GAL WHO WORKS THE CHECKOUT LINE.

Read moreLove this store! Found my favorite worker (Noah) works in hardware/bathroom, etc. area! Stopped what he was doing and showed me what I needed that I asked for! Assured me that a BIG ticket item (for me) that I never used that I bought back in February and was too BIG for my needs ... could be returned and I will get store credit! 11% off everything, AGAIN, going on right now! I WILL be back! I will not only shop at Menards, but I will not shop anymore at Lowe's ... it is what my dad would say, "I went there twice ... 1st and last time*! That is because a few years ago I was looking for appliances and there were 3 or 4 sales people sitting around joking and laughing to themselves as if I were invisible although I clearly needed and wanted some assistance! When I got to the check out; I myself said, "No; I DIDN'T get what I needed!" I wasn't asked the question, but I presented the answer! They (Lowe's) are soooo friendly in their commercials because ... they are ACTORS! Back again on March 15 and Noah's assistant Aaron was as much help as his mentor, Noah! Thanks Menards for employing good people! Back again today (April 26) to take back some globes that were cracking on my newly purchased lamps that I bought in March! Amy @ the service desk was more than helpful as was Ethan and Alivia in the lighting department! I had no problem doing the exchange! I also had hernia surgery 3 weeks ago and cashier Katelyn called for assistance and then Brandon came and loaded my 50" of sunflower seeds in my Jeep! Too bad one can only...
