I was looking for a specific model of smoke detector that is hard to find. I don't live close, the Ace Hardware website said they had the model I was interested in, so I called to confirm. The nice lady on the phone asked how many I wanted. She went to check that they were in stock, grabbed them and held them at the front counter for when I arrived. I got home and noticed that a few of them were manufactured in 2020. The rest were made in 2023. They only last 7 years. I went back the next day (today) to exchange the old ones for newer ones. On the way there I thought these things have lost 2/7 of their life. Maybe they would discount them? This explains why the one (the last one) I got at Lowes was on clearance and heavily discounted. To make a long story short, the cashier spoke to the manager over the radio so I never spoke with him or her. They would not offer a discount on the smoke detectors. I ended up exchanging the older ones for newer ones anyway because these are hard to find and no longer I production. I would have expected a discount due to them having 5 years of their 7 year life left, but whatever. The real alarming thing (pun not intended) is that they're still selling smoke alarms that are only good for 2 more years, and selling them at full price. I hope anyone who buys them realizes this. Edit: I'd error on the side of caution and replace based on the age of the detector.

This is why I stick to big box, like Menards(I went there last week & pick up is a breeze & Very Friendly, worked with 4x employees)…Today I tried Ace by my new house. The Ace in Downtown Chicago @Maple & Bridgeport has always been great I assumed this one would be no different. I placed a curbside pick-up online. I called the store as directed by the app, a disgruntled employee named “Hannah” answered the phone. Please have someone else answer your phones…I explained I had a curbside pickup and gave my name. She then asks, Well…what’s in it?” I started to explain and tell her the order number. she’s goes “yeah, it’s up here you can come in and grab it”. The app mentioned that it would be brought out to my vehicle so I asked if someone could help me. It was a lot of items. They were very reluctant to do so..Then after giving me a hard time about verifying if it was my order..I noticed they forgot an item, the most expensive and important one & had to go back in for it & He was friendly upon return…I did not go inside. However, the outside of the store was well kept, had parking, and had a small garden section.

Don't Go Here! I bought 2 things and was charged 1 dollar a piece more than the price on the shelf. I went back to get this fixed and they said no problem but then I asked for the senior discount which they told me is available every day (this was done on a Thursday) which according to the internet is the ONLY day it is available. Anyway I feel because I had to waste my time and gas to go back to this store a second time to pay the correct price. Anyway their Manager (Will) who instead of thinking that it was their fault to just give me the extra dollar twenty cents just was just making excuses about it. So on my way out I told him that he just lost a customer! They didn't have anybody in their parking lot when I went there. I just wonder how the owner feels about his managers treating senior citizens like this. You decide...
