Mairzy Doats — Local services in Bloomington

I came across Mairzy Doats while running errands in the Bloomington area and decided to check it out.

This store is an absolute gem! It offers toys, books, art supplies, board games, and puzzles- all for an affordable price! However, the price isn’t the only amazing thing about this place. The items that I found here are unlike anything that the area has to offer.

The toys that are sold are all designed to inspire as much creativity and open-ended play as possible. Think along the lines of train sets, blocks, dolls, stuffed animals, pretend play items, vehicles, and SO SO MUCH MORE. As the mother of a small child who doesn’t gravitate to plastic toys that much, it’s a HUGE joy to finally have a local option to go toy shopping. It’s a huge relief to not have to rely on places like Walmart and Target whose toy selections are lackluster and don’t interest my child.

I’m also a huge fan of the board games and puzzles that the store sells. They offer games that encourage everything from cooperative play to reinforcing skills that children will learn in school. The puzzles are from high quality brands, with beautiful images, and with pieces that are sturdy and can stand up to a child’s rough handling.

Lastly, the vibe of this place is so wholesome and sweet. My son has special sensory needs and often gets fixated on things like displays. He was able to observe and inspect a toy that was on display for as long as he wanted. The owner was so kind about it- even when my son insisted on pushing buttons on the display over and over again! As a special needs family, we felt wholeheartedly welcomed and accepted for who we are, which is something incredibly hard to find in this area.

Completely deserving of the 5 stars!! I don't even know where to begin with how amazing this place is. There are toy sections set up for kids to play, read, and even paint while grown ups shop. Stocked so thoughtfully with toys you won't find anywhere else and incredibly reasonable prices. We got 3 gifts for my nieces birthday for 30 dollars! She is also so very kind on the phone and will accommodate any special order needs or wants. Flock to Mairzy...

This is my entire family's favorite store in town. I can happily spend half an hour just looking through the store and enjoying the adorable plushies! I would come here even if I didn't have a child, because it's amazing and everyone can appreciate board games and calico critters.
