I took my computer to the computer clinic on a Tuesday afternoon. I was told I would hear something from them within 24-hours. 3-days later, after hearing nothing, I called and was told I would be charged $5 for them to check on the status of the computer. However, he then realized that the computer had been already diagnosed and they hadn’t called me. When I left the computer we agreed upon a $22.50 diagnosis fee and I would be called for any work that needed to be done. When I called back they said the hard drive was bad and it would be $130 for data recovery, which I had not asked them to do. When I questioned this, he then brought the price down to $112. I reminded him that I did not agree to pay for anything to be done without my permission first. He finally brought the price down to $45 and told me the computer was working since he removed the viruses. I went to pick up the computer with the agreement that I did not want data recover and I did not want the hard drive repaired. I picked up the computer and was told by the employee that “Mike” the owner did this all the time, he told people it would be one price and then without their permission would fix the computer and then charge them much higher prices. I asked for my computer to be returned to me and when he brought it out and tried to reboot it, it would not even start. Previously, prior to bringing it to them, it would start in safe mode. When I asked him about this, he said “sometimes hard drives just malfunction and yours must have.”
I would never take my computer here, especially to a company which is dishonest with...
Read moreMike is absolutely AMAZING!!! I bought a computer from a friend and had seen it working fine just a week before. When I picked up the computer and brought it home to hook it up Windows would not load! I tried every single option to troubleshoot the problem and every option of resetting the computer(since none of the files on it were mine anyways). I searched computer stores in the Bloomington area and The Computer Clinic was the 3 business I called. Not only was he nice and professional over the phone but also very informative. I brought my computer in that evening just before close and had a call back first thing in the morning letting me know what the problem was and told me it was fixed. When I got to the store to pick it up he explained very well in detail what had happened and what he had to do. to fix it. Plus he showed me how to use my new software . He is a lifesaver not to mention completely reasonable I stressed the fact that I had a lot come up this week. He told me it would be anywhere from $30-$90 and he said he would try to keep it as low as he possibly could and told me at the most he would expect it to be $60 and he wasn't lying! $60 even and went out of his way to explain the software and functions on the computer to me!! I WILL be back there with any computer problems I may have in the future. And I WILL ABSOLUTELY recommend them to...
Read moreI've gone to Computer Clinic a few times, and Mike has always been enormously helpful. He'll take the time to give you the details and give advice, and I swear he can rattle off what's mostly likely to break first on every computer under the sun.
Most recently, Mike diagnosed a buckling laptop hinge and monitor frame, told me exactly what caused it and how to avoid it in the future (close your laptops from the middle, not the sides, y'all, you'll thank me later), and helped me assess whether it'd be more worth it to repair this 5yo laptop (parts would be $$$) or find a replacement.
I'm no good at bargain hunting, so when I decided to replace but had trouble finding GOOD computers in my price range, he offered to hunt for me. I sent him my specs, priorities, and price range, and within two weeks, he'd found me a great, sturdy gaming laptop that will HANDILY outperform my old one, plus a 2 TB SSD to upgrade it, PLUS he did all the initial setup that always drives my crazy.
Make sure you leave time to chat, because once you get going with Mike about trouble working with manufacturers and hardware that lives juuuuust long enough to outlive the warranty, you won't...
