SCAM!!!
I attended House of Heavilin in Blue Springs with high hopes for my future, but my experience was deeply disappointing and disheartening. Instead of fostering a supportive learning environment, the school discourages students who assert themselves while favoring those who can be easily controlled. Those who challenge the system are often pushed out and subjected to wrongful termination fees. I personally witnessed multiple instances of this pattern.
During my time there, I was physically harmed by another student while instructors laughed. I was placed in situations that posed a liability to me due to the negligence of instructors, and when I raised my concerns, I was mocked and gaslit by management. The most alarming issue is that the person responsible for handling harassment complaints is the owner, creating a clear conflict of interest and leaving students with no avenue for reporting misconduct.
Despite my repeated attempts to communicate and provide evidence in my defense, I was silenced and falsely accused. Unfortunately, these are just a few of the many issues plaguing this institution.
Additional concerns include: ⢠Hygiene Violations: The school reuses towels meant for cleaning on clientsâ faces. The difference is identifiable by holes in the fabric. For 14k per student, it baffles me HOLES it what potentially saves your face from using a cleaning rag. I have documented bloodstains left on the floor for days, mold in the water fountain, and cockroaches crawling into studentsâ belongings. ⢠Financial Exploitation: Despite tuition covering supplies, students are required to use their own products on clients, while the schoolâs products remain locked away. Students must also pay extra fees for waxing training and even for the privilege of wearing color in their attire. Additionally, students are randomly invoiced for unexplained charges months into their program and after. ⢠Lack of Educational Value: Training is minimal, often consisting of a single demonstration on a hand before students are left to figure things out on their own. Instructors frequently neglect students, spending hours on their phones or receiving personal services while on the clock. The entire staff is unorganized and unprofessional. Most of the time, instructors have to pull their phone out to google the answer. Right after they read word for word out of a book and hand out a crossword puzzle. This school is a joke when it comes to real education. Youâre better off going on YouTube and teaching yourself. ⢠Unethical Practices: The school organizes âreview competitionsâ to artificially boost their ratings, misleading prospective students. Parking is inadequate, grace periods for tardiness are selectively granted, and issues of racism are ignored if addressing them would impact the school financially. Theft is also a huge issue at this establishment. Your lunch isnât even safe.
Furthermore, the school only hires its own graduates, further insulating itself from external accountability. New students are given just three days to determine whether the program is right for them, with no real support or transparency. They donât track your attendance appropriately, so theyâre able to rob you of your tuition and kick you out at their discretion. Which breathing wrong in their direction will get you terminated. The second you start to notice how the school/ staff actually function. Youâre immediately a target if you try to express concerns or ask valid questions about the program youâre paying for. The fact in the documents you sign, it states you cannot sue the school for anything, even if theyâve failed you as a student. Should scream volumes about their establishment.
This institution operates more like a business focused on profit than a school dedicated to student success. I was bullied, mistreated, and financially exploited by this program, and I know I am not alone. Many of the students are young and feel powerless against a system that preys on them. I share my experience but to warn othersâchoose wisely...
Read moreIt started of rocky, with my hair appt. that was scheduled two weeks prior with a master stylist, but only to receive a text that it has been scheduled for Friday morning when I'm at work. Obviously, I'm confused and tried to call but couldn't get an answer, and this is the H.O.H. in Blue Springs. Finally after calling, and calling I get an answer and they did work well to find me a reschedule which of course none were available for Sat., but they were able to get me in during lunch, so I booked, but my booking wasn't with a master stylist, but with a Trisha N.to which I would be her first male textured hair client (2 strand twist) to which obviously I was disappointed because I requested a master for obvious reasons, their skills, their acumen in detail and design, and also the time. The more skilled when it comes to braids and twist the faster they are with their craft. So I really had no choice at this time but to accept an appointment on the wrong day, at the wrong time, and without a master stylist.
Trisha N. bless her heart was absolutely great! She had no fear and listened to what i wanted. She also had a great master Stylist Stephanie W. that would come and check on Trisha N. and I, and get in there and help with the twist, rubber bands, and guidance. Trisha also was great with her concern for my time to be back to work.
Overall, the atmosphere was great, and the staff and students seem to enjoy their career's and future career's. If you are a person of any age I think you would love getting your services here. When I went there were client's of all ages! Bottom line is there were some bumps in the road but HOH did their best to smooth out the pathway for me, and that is what I appreciated. Even though my hair wasn't what I hoped for I was so impressed that I went ahead and rebooked my next appointment, and made sure that it is on a Saturday, and it will be with a master stylist Stephanie W. so I will let you know how it goes!
I'm hoping I'll be able to give a 5 star rating after my next appointment on the 04/JUN/22, which should be an easy 5 star just by having my right appointment date and a master stylist, everything else at HOH is 5 star all around, so if you need beauty services no matter male or female, no matter your age, this is a great place located right here in Blue Springs!
Trisha N, you did great for your first time, and with working with my timeframe, thank you! I want you to know that I'm going to schedule with you again after my upcoming appointment with Stephanie W., so get ready!
Oh, and check out House of Heavilin's Blue...
Read moreI have had my hair done and received spa services for several years with not much issue. However in the last 6 months I have had not 1 but 2 shirts ruined. The first time had to make several phone calls and I was finally told to bring the shirt in to verify the type of shirt and that it was damaged and I would be reimbursed. I made an appointment for another color treatment, and forgot to bring in the shirt from the car before leaving. That visit turned out to be a complete disaster and afterward a second visit was required to attempt to fix the issues. At the time they were very apologetic about my having to be there 5 hours trying to get it right. On the second visit the student that did the work was rude and acted insulted that I even had the nerve to not accept what she had done, as being right. I was again in the chair several hours and finally left in tears over the way I had been treated. After I got home I changed clothes and realized the back of $45 shirt was again ruined by a bleach stain covering 1/3 of the back of my shirt. I have call numerous times and left a message for person in charge of student work to call me and have heard nothing. I have left voice mails and messages with who ever answers the phone, the person I need or speak is always conveniently busy or not in. While understand that these are students and accept that things can and do happen with people that are learning, but part of learning is owning up to mistakes, not be belittling and rude when you donât get it right. I will not return anytime soon- if ever.
3-11-22 UPDATE I was contacted by the director of student services on 3-4-22 and received an apology and told that the student involved would be counseled to address the issues. I was also told that I would be reimbursed for the damages shirts. As of todayâs date I have not received that reimbursement, however itâs only been a few days. I will likely give the students here another chance in the future.
04-21-22 UPDATE After being promised reimbursement for our 2 shirts by the director of student services, Lisa Davis, over a month later we still have received nothing. I have made numerous attempts to reach Ms. Davis and left multiple messages, all of which have gone unanswered. We had hoped to resolve this issue and be able to give the students another chance. At this point we will make an attempt to contact Ms.Davis in person in a final attempt to resolve this before seeking relief in...
