The good: The food was amazing. Appetizers, entrees, and desserts were all great. My family enjoyed everything. The restaurant has valet parking so I didn't have to worry about parking. The environment was very calming, relaxing, and cozy. There was also a Pianist playing which was very nice.
The bad: The wait for the food was insane. I usually do not care if I have to wait longer if it means that the quality of the food is kept at a high standard, which was the case for my family. However, other people came in after my table and already received their appetizers and their entrees first before we even saw our appetizers. Maybe the orders got mixed up in the kitchen, but still a big inconvenience.
The ugly: Service was absolutely atrocious. Multiple waiters messing up and one waiter, which I assume oversees them, was constantly reprimanding them. When my table received our appetizers, the higher up waiter said pretty loud: "They are getting their appetizers now? What took them so long." I understand his concern but its not really something you want to hear because it makes you wonder that your entree will take even longer to get as well. Another issue was when we received our entrees. When each person on your table orders food, the waiter would mark you as a number so they know which person ordered which food. Upon receiving our food, the waiter mixed up the numbers and everyone the wrong entree. It really is not much of problem to me personally, we just had to swap our plates with each other. However, the higher up waiter saw everything and was extremely angry with the buss boy. He pulled him aside right behind our table and was yelling at him to do a better job and to meet expectations. We saw and heard it all, it was rather an embarrassing sight to see. You should always correct someone if they mess up, but to do it right next to your customers is not a wise decision.
Overall: Even though the wait for the food was tiring and the events of the waiters messing up a lot, the quality of the food really made up for it. It was just very concerning to see the waiters to perform so poorly. I would hesitant to come back if the waiters do not step up...
Read moreI hosted a party of 5 in Arturo's last night. First-time visit as I had heard some good things about it. Overall, it was mediocre dining for the price. My observations were based on the following: The wait staff were not familiar with the menu. When paying $100+ pp, this should not be the case. We asked several questions about how the dishes were prepared and answers were vague. For example, I asked about one of the appetizer dishes if the listed items were served hot or cold. The order taker looked closer at my menu and answered. I would imagine it i!s cold! Bread based was served- sliced baguette and focaccia. The 2 squares of tomato focaccia we received were end pieces and were hard and stale. A lack of imagination and attention to detail here. The server who brought the sparkling and still waters poured and each time, for each person, carelessly spilled some of the water onto the tablecloth. Several ordered the pear, gorgonzola salad. For some reason, each serving omitted the almonds that were listed as a component of the salad. I guess they ran out but decided to try their luck serving it anyway. Also, the crumbled gorgonzola was not a high-quality, creamy, luscious blue by any means! Main courses were fine. I ordered the grilled fish- salmon, scallops, shrimp. I was hungry and ate it all, but the temperature of the dish was lukewarm and the salmon and the shrimp were severely over-done. We had called early in the day to provide specific instructions about a dessert choice for one of the guests with a birthday. We had asked for the name to be printed on the plate. At dessert time, 2 staff approached the table asking for our dessert order and were totally oblivious to the earlier request. This ruined the surprise element! In addition, when the dessert arrived, it was 3 massive slices of cake on a plate that was more akin to a presentation at a diner than a reputed fine dining venue.
All in all, based on the performance and presentation of the food and the service, Arturo's falls well short...
Read moreWhere do I begin? What started off as a beautiful evening with friends and family at one of our favorite Italian restaurants (we drove an hour to get there by the way) ended with the owner berating my brother in front of all the other patrons within ear shot. My brother ordered the veal chop medium and when he cut into it he noticed that is was medium rare, so he asked our waiter to cook it a little bit longer. When the waiter brought it back he said be careful the plate is extremely hot. My brother asked, did you put it in the oven or microwave? He said no. My brother asked then why is the plate hot? So then my brother said please just remake it, because now it is tough and not tender the way it is supposed to be. If you can't remake it, no problem, just remove it from the bill. A minute or two passes and now the owner walks out with the same veal chop in his hand and then proceeds to tell my brother, I am the owner and this chop is cooked medium and there is nothing wrong with it. My brother said I want my veal to come off the grill the way I ordered it and if you don't want to remake it then take it off the bill. The owner said you don't know what veal should look like, it's supposed to be white, I have been in the restaurant business 60 years, there is nothing wrong with this chop. My brother said the chop may be ok for you but it is not ok for me, please take it away. Needless to say our entire table was in shock that the owner had the nerve to not only argue with my brother but also try to force the reheated veal chop upon him when he clearly didn't want it. After the owner walked away we asked for the check and to our surprise and disappointment the veal chop had not been removed from the check, especially since we repeatedly have spent $600 - $750 per visit. It is sad that the owner would rather have his $52 for the veal than what would have been a lifetime of business from us. People like him are the reason they call people penny wise and...
