We had lost a kitten that we were supposed to have. She had gotten run over the night before we were supposed to take home from a friend's place. Since she was finally old enough to be away from her mother, we were excited and had everything set up for her and were so devastated when we got the message (RIP Nugget), and just started looking at places to take our minds off the pain. We saw what Port City Cat Rescue was about and immediately knew we would find our cat there. Our application was approved that morning, and we were asked to come take a look at them but couldn't that day. A few days later we did and lo and behold one of our favorite kittens was brought in from her foster. She chose us before we chose her. Immediately curled up in both me and my wife's arms with purrs and muffins. She actually had fallen asleep on my chest as well. There was no doubt that she was the one. She's been great and still enjoys her cuddle times, sometimes a little forcefully ^_~ and just recently learned her new name. She's been nothing short of a perfect match for us, and we can't be more grateful to Port City Rescue and the foster who took care of Estelle (formerly Kit Kat) before she became part of our family.
If you're looking for a place to get a cat, this is where to go. The cats get to run around and socialize and are very well taken care of and the staff we interacted with made the process very easy and were awesome. They're even a charity on Amazon Smile, which we both now have as ours. This place may just be one of my favorite places I've been to in the 12 years I've lived in Louisiana, and if it seems like this is a lot and gushing, this place just gets my heart. They save cats from kill shelters, and if they don't get adopted they will always have a home there. If I could give it a million stars I would. Thank you all again for...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I have been thinking about adopting a cat for a few months now and once we moved into a new home we were so excited to finally be able to adopt one! I emailed Port City Cat Rescue and they were very nice and responsive and helped me fill out an application. I emailed them back saying I had filled out an application and they emailed me back asking what day I’d like my appointment to be on and I emailed back asking for a specific day and time. After that, I didn’t hear back for two days (one of those days was the appointment I asked for) but they finally emailed back and said my email got lost and they were sorry and asked if there was another day I’d like my appointment. So I picked a day that my boyfriend and I were both off of work and emailed them back with that day and asked if we could do it then. However, that was two months ago and I have yet to get an email back from them. I was very excited to be able to adopt a cat from them, as I had heard very good things. However, I will now have to look elsewhere since I am unable to get a response. While they were very kind, and I understand it’s hard to sort through a lot of emails, it is just bothersome that I’ve tried to set up two appointments both not...
Read moreI did some volunteer work here a couple of summers ago. This is an amazing facility and I plan on trying to go and volunteer my time again very soon. Animals are something that I love and I'm passionate about. This is a beautiful no kill facility when they take a cat in, if it never gets adopted out, it still has a permante spot at the facility so they do have a home until their natural passing. But they also adopted cats out to people wanting a cat for a pet. They are remarkable animals and I have had many as my pets and also have fostered a few times. You should go check it out if given the chance volunteer some time or donate some food, litter, beds, toys, old blankets, towels. The things I have mentioned help these no profit organization open and operating. Vets donate some time. Its such a wonderful place to me and I can't wait until I have a chance to volunteer and help clean up or feed or whatever needs to be done. A little of your time...
