Hong Kong Hair Place II — Local services in Boston

Think I've come here to cut my hair maybe 5 or 6 times by now. Always get a generic high fade. I like the atmosphere and music. Sometimes the wait can be anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours, but I'd say the median wait time is 30 minutes. For $20 you get a haircut and wash which is pretty good value. Tom is a great guy. Wish he was at the shop whenever Google says the place is open. There have been multiple times where I would come on a Saturday and the place is closed when Google says it's open. When I do manage to get a hair cut, it looks fine when I leave but once I get home and wash my hair, I notice a lot of hairs on the top of my head are very uneven so either my mother does some corrections or I try to in the mirror and then the end result would look fine. The first time this happened, I went back and Tom did some corrections free of charge. He said he would get better with time. He also recommended gel, which I bought and later threw out after 1 use because it smelled like chemical waste, to deal with the hair at the back of my head looking longer due to my cowlick. Also, shout out to Tom for being open so late. Basically, I choose this place when I want a cheap hair cut and I'm willing to do corrections afterwards.

I tried to go here more than 3 times and I've called this place repeatedly because I don't want to waste 30+ minutes on gas for no reason. I did once, am not going to do it again. If you want to have more customers, maybe be more accurate on your opening times? I've literally tried to call from 1pm-3pm each time to see if they were open (after the first time I drove and waited 1.5 hours for no opening), yet there was NEVER any response. Right now, I called and got an immediate hang-up. Maybe they blocked me or maybe they disconnected the line, but I'm very dishearnted to discover that this place has so much positive ratings, yet this is what it does. Nah, I don't have confidence in this...

Tommy is his name. I have been to many places, but this place is my go to. You get the barber shop conversation (he’s funny) and he’s open late. Sometimes he’s open til midnight, which is convenient for those of us who work. His technique is good. Look.. he’s asian, and us Asians do things differently. It might not be the cleanest environment and some of these bad reviews are unfair because they don’t get it. The experience there is like being at home and hanging out with your friend. 17 dollars for a cut? You can’t beat that. He cuts better than 30 dollar shops. I always tip him a 5 because he earns it.
