My friend, Isaac Macdowell, passed away unexpectedly this week. Isaac worked at the @goodwillgulfstream Boynton Beach, so needless to say, we saw A LOT of each other. Before I knew him, I would love to watch him interact with the customers, always smiling and giving compliments to people. ALWAYS saying have a blessed day 🙏 If you were ever feeling down, just cross paths with Isaac, and he'll have you feeling happier and more confident with just a few words. We became friendly, and then, friends. Isaac was with me every step of the way leading up to the opening of @soflo_finds . Isaac had many disadvantages, he had a stroke years before which left him with one side very weak, so he struggled to walk. He was illiterate, so I would imagine that made much difficult for him. He lived in a rooming house that he was desperate to get out of. He would say to me that he just needed to get out of there, the people were very bad people. Drugs, violence, they would mess with him. But he was ALWAYS smiling and grateful and felt blessed! He was such a deep kind soul. We connected. He would tell me he would feel my presence before he would see me. He was such a light in my life. I'd always come home with stories about my Isaac. He took the bus from west palm to delray on his day off to visit me at the store a few times. The first time he got off far away and walked! The Sweetest. He would just beam at me 🥰 I have never felt someone's presence so much after they passed. When they told me what happened at Goodwill, I could hear him and feel him holding me, saying, "oh no, Baby Girl, oh no, no, don't cry" and him smiling and hugging me. I know he will always be with me, he was my guardian angel when he was alive, and I would think about that often. Isaac was otherworldly. The Way he grew up in the south, the things he's seen, are something I've only seen in movies, and he lived the horrors of growing up black in the south, yet he was the gentlest...
When he would visit the store, he would INSIST that I read this plaque that I had hanging of a portion of Steve Jobs Stanford commencement speech. He said he loved hearing me read it. And he would make me read it a few times in a row and he would ask that I would read it slowly.
"Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."
I wish he could've gotten to see the expansion of the shop, I can see his face and absolutely feel his pride 💖✨️🙏 he would also always say to me, "Baby Girl, you gotta take it slow, take it slow, big things are going to happen, wait and see, but go slow, there's no rush. 🙏✨️💖
Isaac really enjoyed seeing The Color Purple musical recently at the movies. He couldn't stop saying how much it moved him. I'm going to have to...
Read morejust left this goodwill. went to bring my donations which i often do..(never again) I never shop at goodwill but my daughter was with me and she wanted to see if they had toys. To make a long story short i saw 2 wicker used outside chairs. I took the papers that was on them to a worker in the shoe dept.. I said is this the tag for both chairs . she said yes and to take it to the register. I waiting for about 20 minutes online , no big deal. I told the cashier that this was 2 matching wicker chairs..the note on the chairs said wicker chair.(.that is why i asked to begin with) so now 2 employees said yes its for both chairs. Ok now I pay for the chairs which was 29.99..All is good she told me to pull around the back. I hand the worker outside my slips she goes inside to get them couldnt find them. So she came to get me outside for me to show them where they were. Because it said chair on the ticket the worker went to talk to someone named marie i believe..Mind you we had been at the store now for over and hour my car ready to be loaded and this woman says oh no this is for only one chair. I said why did the people tell me it was for both.. I said i would like my money back. she refused to give me the slips back but I had my receipt so I went inside to get my refund. That woman is the manager she was called to the register where she was so rude and nasty saying i would never sell those chairs for 29.99..I was like they are used outdoor chairs worn why would anyone pay 60.00 for them.. The cashier told her she said it was for both but she didnt want to hear it. the manager had a hard time figuring out how to open the register I guess and it was taking a bit of time.. I said can you please give me my refund and you can figure out the register on your time. my teenage daughter was in the car. She said I cant help it if its a slow machine. Finally after over an hour of buying chairs cleaning my car to load them and then having to get a refund it was the hour from hell.,.Never again will I donate to this store or ever shop there again. i will go to habitat for...
Read morePersonnel are very pleasant. Some prices seem reasonable but not all. Still you can get some good deals. The place is new and clean and the clothing appears well organized. Most times they have sufficient carts except on senior day, Wednesday. Many checkout people are nice.
They need more room for furniture since they receive large pieces, chests, dressers, beds, china cabinets, tables but the furniture sells fast. Unfortunately they do not deliver furniture so you need to have your own mover. For me that is a problem. Would be nice if they could link to somebody or a company one can hire for small jobs.
My main complaint about Goodwill in general is magic marker on an item in a location where the ink cannot be removed. I have complained to no avail. I cannot buy something that is ruined with price in ink that is not removable like ink on paper, cloth (felt) or unglazed ceramic surfaces such as bottom of ceramic pots or figurines. I cannot gift something like that. I post that here in hopes that Goodwill personnel will take notice. I wish more customers would complain so maybe things would change. I feel like I am the lone voice.
This store is smaller than others in West Palm Beach area but it is new and nice. It is hit and miss for finding good deals but that is true with all...
