Our small group of divers enjoyed two morning three-tank charters aboard Delta's Splash out of Boynton Beach in September 2023. On the deck was Paul; he was great fun to spend time with and provided us ample support before, during, and after dives. Above us in the wheelhouse was Captain Lynn. She is a certified legend in these parts, but because of the boat's configuration, you won't interface with her at all, which is a disappointment. We opted for the boat to provide us with 100 cf steel nitrox tanks; this was without issue. Drops and pickups went without a hitch. The deck is wide and comfortable. There is no camera tank but rather a 5-gallon bucket. The mounted deck shower nozzle is nice accoutrement. The boat ladder can be a challenge as it only has one available handhold during ascent. Without the deckhand steading you as you climb, the trip up the ladder can be sketchy. If you are not familiar with Boynton Beach dive boat operations, someone in your group will have to carry "the flag" (essentially a DSMB that is not delayed—it's always on the surface) as these dive sites are in active boat areas. After briefing, you'll be on your own; no in-water guides here without previously...
Read moredove on Splashdown Divers on 3 Sept 2022. If I had known about the 12 - 18-inch step down from the deck of the boat to the swim platform and having to take that step to leave and then climb back up coming back aboard with full gear - I never would have booked the dive. I have 40 years of diving experience and am a retired staff instructor - in my estimation this configuration is an accident waiting to happen. the crew, one very experienced and the other appearing to be very new did take good care of us and the reefs as always were beautiful but when the captain came down off the bridge between drops, and proceeded to chew us out up one side and down the other, as if we were disobedient children that was not only demeaning but insulting - telling us we needed to stay with the group!!! how do you stay with a group of divers when each dive team was dropped in separate places?? - we were not placed together - besides we were scolded for not following some rule of hers that was never explained as being an expectation prior to placing us in the water. I could go on, but I think I have said enough. as always, it was a pleasure to get in the water I only wish the experience on the boat had...
Read moreAt first I didn’t have a great impression of Slashdown but I don’t want to get into specifics because that was in the past. Once I started diving with them more regularly, I learned more about what type of operation they lead and they really they care so much about the safety of their divers. About a year ago some guy was deep fishing within close proximity of the dive boat with divers still underwater which is against the law and Dave really took matters into his hands and protected his divers very well from the deep fisherman who had no regard for the people down below. I was super impressed and touched that he cared so much about his divers. I actually get excited about diving with Slashdown because they make your dives as easy and enjoyable as they possibly can. Their team really works hard to keep you comfortable and happy. I look forward to diving with them again this upcoming mid July! Especially since This time I’ll be visiting from Utah instead of living in Florida like I had before.
Thank you splashdown for keeping us safe...
