Working at Spencer’s is far from the straightforward job it appears to be. The real challenge lies not in folding t-shirts or assisting customers but in dealing with unreliable co-workers who frequently no-show, leave mid-shift, or quit without warning. Often, you’ll find yourself forced to pick up extra shifts at the last minute, pushing you over your allowed hours—a policy violation. Upper management is completely disconnected from the reality of their stores. They retain employees who can’t perform basic tasks while driving out those who do their jobs well. Instead of addressing their own failures, they blame the store manager for staffing issues. Training is also a joke; they expect you to complete it alongside daily tasks but never give you time for it, forcing you to do it on your own time, which they'll tell you not to do. Higher management has targeted staff by telling them that they are monitoring surveillance cameras to catch policy violations, weaponizing this as a tool to intimidate employees. They will flat out tell you to not discuss your wages with your coworkers and if you do and they find out expect retaliation and targeted mistreatment. Pay disparities between positions are rampant, fostering an environment of suspicion and distrust creating a toxic work place. Higher manager is the core issue. Not only are they incompetent, but they are also deeply toxic, manipulative, and openly discriminatory against age, sex, and disabilities. They offer false promises of promotions to string you along for work, but those promises never materialize, leading to widespread frustration. Worse still, they actively gossip about employees with other stores and even your own colleagues, creating a toxic and divisive atmosphere. If you have any concerns or complaints, don’t expect higher manager to address them, they will let harassment go rampant because they don't know how to handle it and don't want to get themselves in trouble so employees just have to deal with it. They have been known to encourage management to quit just to justify firing employees they dislike and handing the position to one of their favorites or the ones they manipulated to quit in the first place. Spencer’s will string you along with empty promises of growth, only to sabotage you at every step. If you’re looking for a toxic, manipulative, and gossip-filled work environment, this is the...
Read moreI used to love coming to this location, the associates and vibe used to be amazing but within the past 6 months there's a new dark haired lady running everything, I think her name is Royal but she never wears a nametag so asking for help is impossible and she has the worst customer service that I've ever encountered. She is rude to customers, will blatantly ignore you and I've heard her making belittling and degrading comments about and to other associates. I litterally don't know how she still works here, they ruin every experience we have going into that store and it's gotten to the point where we avoid it if she's working because we don't want our...
