Branhaven Plaza — Local services in Branford

We have hockey practices and games here. Much better now that there is a water bottle filling station!! (If we forgot water and didn't have cash for the drink vending machine, we used to have to fill water bottles in the bathroom.) It is a single rink with limited seating on the same side of the rink as the benches for the players. The seating area used to be a little warmer than some other area rinks, but I don't think it is now. However, one nice thing is that there are multiple exits (no entry) to the parking lot from the stands if you want to hurry to your car to warm up after watching a practice or game. Usually all front doors are locked except for one, so don't assume you are in the wrong place if you arrive and it is locked. There are semi-gross gendered bathrooms and several locker rooms available. There is a small foyer outside the rink where folks can keep a little more warm, but no seating there and no real views into the rink from there. In the same area are some gumball machines and one of two vending machines (this one with chips, candy, etc.). There may also be an arcade game, if memory serves. No skate sharpening available. So I live in East Haven-- I love shopping here in large part because I love to take the drive along Short Beach Road. What a beautiful few miles!! Whenever folks come to visit from out of state, I always find an excuse to drive over to Branhaven Plaza so that they can see the glory of Short Beach Road. That said, the plaza has a Big Y where you can hear middle aged men discuss the merits of Sour Diesel shamelessly in the aisles, you can buy delicious and overpriced local food, and where many folks seem to know one another because there is a lot of greeting and asking about the kids, the dog, the new sprinkler system, etc. There is a Kohl's where you can get GREAT buys, and a handful of smaller businesses-- as well as a MOE's, which made my partner...

Kohl's personnel are focused and are working on the basis of teamwork, and it shows! Everyone was polite and professional, I miss the jewelry counter, but a store must do what they must, to turn a profit in these trying times!
