So glad to have Veggie Crust in Brookline! We used to visit their other location in Somerville but it was just a little too far. This location opened recently, maybe a few months ago. There are about 5-6 tables to dine in. You can walk in, sit down. They do have a counter but if you're dining in, they come to you to take your order as well as bring you your food. Food-wise, some of the best pizza I've had. We usually opt for a fusion pizza. For example, the paneer tikka masala pizza, paneer manchurian, pav bhaji pizza or the curry leaves pesto portobello pizza. We also get the regular crust. It's very light yet has a crunch to it. The topping to slice ratio is pretty solid. Their base for the fusion pizzas is delicious, each one has a distinct flavor. Since they do half n half pizzas, we always get to try out two flavors! Other points to note: - The bathrooms are gender neutral - They accept cards - Many vegan options available - Also serve salad, pasta and ice cream. Haven't had a chance to try them yet - the pizzas are so darn tasty! - The pizza can take a while but arrives piping hot - Friendly staff The only reason I take away a star is that they use disposable plates and plastic cutlery. I hope to see them switch over to regular (e.g. ceramic, steel, etc.) plates/cutlery for dine-in customers. @VeggieCrust, you can do it!

Their food was fresh and succulent. Portions were generous and all tasty, we even had leftover for Sunday. The place is clean even the bathroom. I spoke to the mashgiach and asked how they deal with the fact it is owned by non Jews and is opened on shabbat. He told me they will not turn on any fires, plus in shabbat he randomly stops in to make sure nothing is being brought in not kosher. On Saturday night the first thing the mashgiach does is turn off all fires and ovens and rekindles them just in case. Also on Friday he checks enough produce so they have for all of Friday night and shabbat. There are enough choices on this menu to come here for a while and not repeat what you ordered and instead try something new. They also sell pure nondairy ice cream.

--------------------------- EDITED 9/24/21 Would actually give them 3 stars for this last visit but I'll average it out to 4. We got half impossible and half falafel. It cost more than $27. Barely any toppings, esp on the impossible side (see attached photo), and tasted more like an overcooked cheese pizza. ------------------------- ORIGINAL: Recommended to me by an Indian colleague, who told me that this is her go-to place for take out. We tried the falafel pizza and paneer Manchurian pizza. The falafel one was fantastic. Manchurian tasted like a mild barbecue pizza, but it was tasty as well. Both were approved by my very carnivorous husband. Can't wait to try their other dishes!

Update:

The pizzas were surprisingly good, very flavorful and balanced well. I just wish the crust was slightly crispier - I had to reheat them myself on the stove to crisp it up. Updating the rating to 4 stars.

Original: I’m very torn about this place, some dishes are absolutely terrible like the chaats (samosa, dahi papdi), they are extremely sour, over spiced in one and bland in the other (the dahi papdi Chaat was missing the dahi!!). I don’t think I’ve had worse Chaat in my life and Chaat is something that very easy to make and get right. You really have to try to screw it up so badly.

Flip over to the entrees and it’s a mixed bag, it’s not bad - certainly not the best but better than most. The chole bhature was very decent, missing some salt. The Dal bhukara was actually very good. This is a very complex dish and hard to make so they’re obviously doing something right to make this so well. The Gobi 65 was soggy instead of crispy but well spiced and balanced.

It’s almost like the more complex the dish the better they make it but simple dishes and chaat are just bad to terrible. Take your pick!

The portion sizes however are small and not generous. Plus they are very poor at forecasting wait times (said 20-25 minutes but took almost 50 minutes, I noticed this compliant with multiple customers waiting to pick up their orders).

Next time I may...

This place was a disaster. I ordered online food to be picked up promptly at 4 PM this morning at 10 AM. I asked to be contacted if this was a problem in this era of social distancing. This was a big order with diverse food and I did not want to wait. 2 pizzas, pakora, paratha, and tofu Manchurian. On my order, I specified that I would be there promptly at 4. I got there and the owner/manager was not practicing social distancing....He really got right in my face. He explained that he had just opened and I would have wait 5 minutes.

I looked around and saw that the oven was not turned on and this would not be a five-minute wait.....Sitting there in my N-95, I did not want to wait for an extended period of time. I asked him to deliver my food instead. He said I would have to pay for that which I was not willing to do as I live 20 minutes away and had already spent my time and gas $$ on the drive. He became ruder and meaner.

I gave him a comparison of a school teacher. If the bell rings at 8, do the teachers arrive at 8 or do they come at 7:30 to get ready for the day? He clearly had no ability to understand the analogy or make inferences. He did, however, cancel the order.

I have heard that their food is great but I truly would not trust this guy's social distancing and he clearly does not understand...
