I attended North Hennepin Community College many years ago. I came out of poverty in the inner city of Minneapolis with a poor education. So I enrolled in NHCC to play catch-up and complete my gen eds towards my bachelors. This was the only way that I was going to make it into the University of Minnesota with even half a chance to graduate.
North Hennepin gave me a place to transition. Smaller classes and more access to instructors at a cost that was affordable. I struggled at times. But there was always somebody to turn to at NHCC who helped me figure out how to move forward.
I have been a licensed clinical therapist for the past 18 years. I transferred into the University of Minnesota and finished my undergrad in Child Psychology. Later I finished my masters in Counseling Psychology, licensed in two states and have now built two successful private practices. I owe a debt of gratitude to North Hennepin - where my education truly started.
Since I graduated from NHCC, the cost of an education has risen over 300%. So to those of you looking to complete your bachelors degree, be smart - start at a community college and transfer in. You will have a much better experience and save a whole...
Read moreA friend of mine attends here & apparently isn't allowed to participate in her clinicals because she's unvaccinated. If someone is taking proper precautions to be safe & be masked appropriately, why should all of their effort & hard work be put to waste? All she wants to do is help people. I feel like this is pretty much saying no one has a right to be educated anymore unless they're vaccinated. & I'm sure your administration will come give me a ridiculous, "We're sorry you feel that way. Please contact [Inserts phone number to an unrelated area that will just give you a run around], but that's not what I'm here for. I'm just here to say that I would NEVER go to school at a place that wants to make my decisions for me. We choose what we pursue in school because that's what sparks our interests & our minds. A school that wants to take that ambition away from their students isn't a school I'd...
Read moreI came here for a year or so to start up my degree. The classes were easy to figure out and the price is good.
For the location you don't really even need a car, there's a great food place across the street and if you're willing to drive a bit, there's plenty more options.
However the food in the vending machines are frequently problematic often expired by more than a few months. They also have a "hot food" vending machine but it's only worked once or twice in the entire semester I was there.
Outside of that, I didn't have any issues. The teachers were good, the price was good, and the material will help me attain the degree I want. It also connects with other local colleges to make transferring and comparing...
