Every time I visit this store and spend time browsing a section, the same employee—an older woman—approaches me as if my presence is somehow an inconvenience. As a paying customer, I expect to be able to browse freely and take my time deciding whether or not to purchase a book, especially considering how expensive some of them are.
Just today, I was seriously considering buying three books when this same employee came up and asked me to move so she could pass through the aisle—despite there being multiple other clear and accessible aisles. I was crouched down, reading the back covers to figure out which titles were worth my limited budget, and her interruption genuinely upset me. It felt unnecessary and intentional, especially since no one else was around.
This isn’t the first time this has happened either—it’s at least the second or third time I’ve had a similar interaction with her. I get that staff may need to move around the store, but asking a customer to step aside in an otherwise empty space feels inconsiderate and hypocritical. Because of this repeated experience, I’ve decided I won’t be returning—especially if she’s the one working the register. It just felt like she was trying to prove a point from the last few interactions but there is no point to prove. I take a while to make a decision and if I'm not allowed to do that here then this store needs some serious reevaluation on what kind of...
Read moreAbsolutely LOVE Books-A-Million. It's one of my favorite places to visit whenever I'm in Brunswick. We stop almost every time we are in town. The coffees are excellent. They are fairly priced and always properly blended, unlike Starbucks. The flavor to coffee to sweet ratio is perfect, and it's a great treat to enjoy while perusing the selection. The bargain books are fabulous, and the selection is wonderful. From tarot, to cookbooks, to classics, BAM has everything with great prices to fill your cart. And yes, they have carts. The variety of books, Manga, comics, swag, D&D manuals, journals...pretty much anything for any kind of bibliophile to appease your hearts content. I've found plenty of deals, at times cheaper than online. Their membership is a good deal, depending on how much you spend. I do purchase a bit online, which the membership includes free shipping on ALL orders; two orders alone pays for the membership. For a person who enjoys physical books, or purchases them as gifts, it's a good value. I adore this store, and it's one of my happy places. I look forward to another visit, impromptu...
Read moreGreat selection of books and service to find books that you are looking for. However the experience of trying to pay and leave is beyond frustrating. It's like a sales pitch. I refuse to pay to become a member of bvb the discount program they offer ,so I politely decline after the abshier politely in great detail explained this discount program for what seemed like forever , and then she puts down another sales pitch offering me free months of magazine subscriptions that I can cancel after 3 months and again took forever, at this point I just want to pay for the 50$ in books that I just want to beg her to take at this point so I can get out the door this is all beyond ridiculous to have to be berated by multiple offers to spend more money. I will not be going back after that uncomfortable, exhausting experience of trying to spend mo ey in this store ....
