I had a terrible experience at Hungry Crab due to one of their bartenders acting very suspiciously with my debit card.
A friend and I went to have dinner and drinks at the bar. This was my fifth time visiting the establishment in the last two weeks. When we cashed out, the bartender took our cards and brought both of the checkout books to us -- but my friend's card was in her book while mine was not.
I searched through my entire purse and mentioned to my friend my card was missing. Another bartender overheard me then checked the register that is literally in the bar. My card and the bartender who served us were nowhere to be found. When the bartender finally showed back up, I simply asked her, "where's my card?" She rolled her eyes then walked off without a word. She returned from the front register (we were sitting in the bar are where there's a register). I asked her if she was supposed to check me out at the bar and she replied either register could be used. I nodded my head and left it at that. As she walked off, I could hear her say, don't nobody want your card," but I let it slide because I was excited to hang out with my friend.
As my friend and I were leaving, I turned back around to grab my receipt from the book. I walked to the bar, grabbed the receipt, and was walking out of the establishment when the bartender YELLED ACROSS THE ENTIRE RESTAURANT, "don't nobody want your card!" Literally yelled across the entire restaurant as I was on my way out the door. I turned around and approached her to address the issue, but she continued to say "don't nobody want your card," as she backed away into the kitchen. Pure comedy!
The fact that she went straight to "don't nobody want your card" instead of saying she mistakingly left it somewhere is what really made me feel something shady was going on. I've turned my card off and am now inconvenienced with having to ordering another one.
After talking to another friend about the issue, I called the restaurant to let them know I wanted a refund. I was told the manager Tai would give me a call. He called me, informed me there had been THREE other customer complaints about the bartender, but he refused to give me a refund. There is no way I should have paid for that meal after being completely disrespected by their employee.
Tai initially told me I could get 70% off of my next meal. But why would I feel comfortable using my card in an establishment where employees can act shady with my card and not face any recourse? He then said I could get a free meal, but that is not satisfactory to me.
If you decide to go to this establishment, be sure to take cash. They clearly don't take employees acting sketchy with their customers'...
Read moreGreat atmosphere. Lots of fun decorations and places to take pictures with the family/friends. I’ve seen some reviews taking about the music and profanity. I didn’t personally hear any on our visit. I appreciated the early 90s rap and so did my family! They have a big menu. We tried the Hungry Crab special #4 which had crawfish, muscles, shrimp, corn, potatoes, and two eggs. It was definitely enough to feed two people and pretty delicious. The muscles were some of the best I’ve ever had. My kid had the fried shrimp and French fries which were fresh and delicious as well. The clam chowder was pretty good. I’d probably add a dash of old bay to it and some Louisiana hot sauce, give it a kick (but the Louisiana hot sauce was on the table, so you’re good to go.). We did get a half dozen steamed oysters as well, not the best I’ve had but pretty good (medium in size). The hush puppies were also pretty good, but they may have been previously frozen. I’m not sure about that though. If they’re a batter, I’d definitely recommend making them a little larger in size and adding a little more pepper and green onion into the batter. They also have a full bar and a good drink selection including Silver Bluff beer. I would recommend providing metal forks to the guests or crab claw crackers. Forks are cheaper and can be used to easily crack tough spots and joins in crab legs just in case someone doesn’t get to the meat on the first try. Overall this place is 4 stars in my opinion. We got a house special that feeds two, a kids dinner, a half dozen oysters, an appetizer of hush puppies, two beers, a lemonade, and three waters for under $92 WITH TIP. It was $76 before the tip. As far as decent seafood dining out, that’s a pretty good price. But truly the atmosphere is outstanding. Some folks put a lot of hard work into these designs and it’s worth going just to see the place on the inside! The parking is great, plenty of spaces. And the seating is very nice too. Lots of seating. They even have private rooms. I don’t know that I would call this the top seafood place in Brunswick/the Golden Isles, but a good...
Read moreUpon walking in my friend and I were greeted with louder than normal dance music, which we were not expecting. We were shown to a seat, which was clean and comfortable, given out menu's and told we would have a server shortly. Shortly turned into over 10 minutes. I ordered a coke or a Pepsi, whichever they had and my friend ordered unsweet tea and sweet n low. 15 minutes later the server returned with my drink and what turned out to be sweet tea. She said she would return shortly to take our orders. Almost everything is fried, so if you are looking for something non fried, the menu is limited. I ordered red snapper with fries and my friend ordered a clam chowder and a shrimp basket. 30 minutes later our food came (minus the soup). The server then was reminded that we had a sweet tea and then the server (who was different than the original server) took it upon himself to fix right away. All attempts to get a hold of another server had failed, it had been mentioned but not rectified. The fish was overcooked and rubbery, as were the shrimp. We had both finished our meals when the soup arrived, after one spoonful it was left, it wasn't edible, store brand soup is better than this. We waited another 15 minutes for the server to arrive before we walked to the counter. On my way I asked where the restrooms were located and was ignored, I had to find them myself. An employee was listening to music on his phone whilst in the restroom and singing the swear words to the music, which when I mentioned something, he looked at me and kept going. I then returned to the front desk where my friend was paying and talking to the guy who delivered our food and he blamed it on the waitress having a bad day. The place was pretty much empty when we got there and when we left. There were groups of staff talking to one another and ignoring customers. The inside of the building looks amazing, the lighting is great, but the staff just don't care and the music is inappropriate for the environment. We still tipped, but did not feel like they cared that we were there. We will not be returning, and I will not be recommending this...
