First, these people know what they are doing with regard to a LGB train. I called all over San Diego, and nobody seemed to know how to convert a sound car into a working sound car. This involved some wiring, some drilling, changing wheels to metal wheels, etc. At Train Shack, they explained that they had done this many times and could make the sound car work assuring me that this was fairly simple. When the work was done, they advised me as requested and gave me the option of mailing it back to me or me picking it up from their store. I elected to have them mail it to me and they sent it USPS which was much cheaper than UPS, giving me price quotes and taking it to the post office for mailing. I could not be happier, and when grandkids saw and heard the train, there was pure Christmas joy all through the house. When my 18 month old grandson saw and heard the train, he literally shook with excitement. So, much fun. I am very much pleased with their honesty, integrity, and...
Read moreMy husband and I LOVE this store! He grew up going to the store regularly and having many model trains. I was new to this whole “train” thing, but ever since my first visit to the Train Shack, I truly enjoy setting up my train layouts, running different engines, and decorating with accessories. I left with a wonderful Christmas train set the very first time I visited the store. The staff are wonderful! Not only competent and helpful, they are also very friendly, genuine, personable, and caring - they feel like our family! I’ve been to the store so many time, but I still find new items/interesting details every time I visit. The staff remember what I have in my train layout and their recommendations are catered to my budget, scale, and train set - always recommend the perfect piece which makes my layout even more realistic. Train Shack is a great place for both professional train enthusiast and novice train lovers, as well as perfect for families with kids! By far, my favorite...
Read moreOk can not speak more highly of this establishment. Was greeted by a very friendly and knowledgeable staff. My son needed to have a repair made to one of his engine cars. They envolved him in the whole process (thank God cause it's latin to me) Jon (there repair guy) came out wrote up a ticket and said due to the workload it would be 3-5 week (this is more then fair seeing as we were given timetables of 9 months from the other place. We figured we would take a look around the store (if you are a train enthusiast you should do yourself the same favor) before we could walk out the door Jon had stopped us saying he just needed to make a quick sodder and we could take the train home today. Needless to say my son may have shown a level of excitement that was slightly elevated. There is no way I could write a positive enough review for this family owned business. They along with there knowledgeable and friendly staff get an A+ in my book. Thank you again train shack it was an...
