DO NOT BUY ACADEMY GIFT CARDS!!! I REPEAT DO NOT BUY ACADEMY GIFT CARDS!! I went to Academy in Burlington today and I can honestly say it’s the worst experience I have ever had in a retail store. I wanted to call the police I felt like they were robbing me. I received a gift card for Christmas but they wouldn’t accept it because it wouldn’t conveniently scan for the guy/girl working the cashier so he quickly told me he could do nothing about it and the card could not be used at store! I called for a manager and the first guys name was Matt and honestly he had no more authority than a clerk so they sent another manager and his name was Caleb and he also had no authority other than to repeat there was nothing he could do. As a business man I have to ask myself why put people in a position and pay them if they can’t do anything. The Cost of gas is pretty high and my wife and I drove over 100 miles to get to the store. Thank God victory’s secret has a system that works for gift cards or our trip would have really been a big waste! This store has a large variety of all kinds of sports, fitness and outdoors equipment. I was glad I stopped in. My son has just started weight lifting and there were so many products to choose from. The store was very clean and organized. They had exactly what we were looking for and at a very reasonable price. The sales associate Muhammad helped me so much. He had a lot of knowledge about weightlifting for beginners, about the products to try, and very helpful tips from his own experience. I left feeling very comfortable and confident in helping my son with this new fitness endeavor. I really appreciate Muhammed's feedback and time to answer all my questions. He was very knowledgable, helpful, and nice. It's great that there are employees there that can actually give you fitness advice and recommendations about their products and your fitness goals, especially for beginners like us. We'll be back!!! This store sucks. I walk in to get j hooks for my weight bench and there is no one around. I try and find the j hooks but am unsuccessful. I walked to the service center and there are 3 employees and a supervisor talking amongst themselves and texting all huddled up together. I asked for help. No one knew where anything was and seemed bothered for asking the question. The supervisor tells me we'll call over Brandon to meet you. I hear there is a guy who needs something. I walk back over and wait for Brandon. He doesn't come. So I walk back to the service desk and ask where Brandon is after waiting over 5 minutes. The whole staff seemed miserable.
