I have great memories of this place from my childhood. It used to be a very popular shopping destination. People would travel from all over the state to shop here. There were lots of popular stores and even a shuttle service to carry shoppers around. Unfortunately, it is like driving into a post apocalyptic movie when you visit today. The buildings are old and only a small percentage of the stores are even occupied. The parking lots are always empty. The hustle and bustle is long gone from this place. There are however, a few businesses still there. But it’s just an old relic now, sitting in an otherwise great location and reminding folks of what it used to be. Even the nearby hotels that were established to accommodate traveling shoppers have gone dramatically downhill. Unless you are shopping for crack, I wouldn’t stay at any of them. It’s very sad to witness what used to be one of the best tourist attractions in the county turn into a ghost town. I’d love to see this place come back to life again. But it doesn’t look likely in the near future. Major retailers have established themselves at newer shopping destinations like Tanger Outlets or Alamance Crossing. This review isn’t meant to discourage anyone from visiting the few businesses that still exist there. Like everyone else, they need customers too. But BMOC as a whole is only a ghost of its former self. I give it three stars...
Read moreThis is a review of the mall itself (buildings, grounds, parking) not the businesses in the mall.
There are some shops in the mall that are fantastic and that deserve a visit.
The mall itself is old and decrepit. I don't think I'm exaggerating if I say that about 1 of 10 storefronts are occupied. There are no public restrooms and I don't see any mall security. Instead of grouping shops together for synergy, they open shops up far away from each other. So far away you have to cross parking lots and roads between them.
It used to be a Tanger discount mall, but has been sold once or twice since. No one seems to know the current status.
Part of Alamance Community College is is in a portion of the mall, again, away from everything else.
It seems ok during the day but I personally avoid it at night - - I think everything except the club is closed then anyway.
As of January 2018, stores I like include the garden center on Chapel Hill Rd, the store nearby that supports the hospice, and Ann Hope's Corner which is a children's consignment store. There are other stores there that you...
Read moreThis place should be used in college level business courses to demonstrate what happens to a commercial property that is allowed to decline unchecked. Back in the late 80's and early 90's this was a great place to shop. There was a wide variety of shops and there were actual values to be found. Sometime after that it slowly went downhill and has never recovered. The first casualty I can remember was a restaurant that set near the entrance. After that the stores were fewer and fewer with each visit. The last time we just drove through and didn't even bother to stop. They have a great location and, although spread out, it was easy to visit the stores by taking them in groups and moving the car from lot to lot. I can only conclude that poor management caused its current state. Either it was not marketed properly or the rent bar was set far too high. This is definitely the picture you would imagine of a slow death in...
