We love shopping at your business in both Graham and Burlington. Their stores are always full of beautiful high-quality products, a wide selection of unique items and staff is mostly pleasant. However, I was reminded why I don't shop there more this past weekend. It absolutely dumbfounds me as to WHY you feel the need to charge people a 4% surcharge for using your debit or credit card??!! And when I mentioned it to one of your employees they seemed completely dumbfounded. I was raised on a small family farm and have run several different businesses. I understand how accepting credit cards eats away at your bottom dollar. But, unfortunately, that is the price we pay for owning a small business and the ever changing modern times. Especially now, MOST people do not carry cash! They certainly DO NOT carry hundreds of dollars in their pockets for the unexpected or planned out trip to your business! You do other things as a small business to help absorb the credit card fees, instead of penalizing your customers. Their prices are certainly plenty high enough to absorb some of these fees. And if your credit card companies are charging you too much, perhaps it's time to switch to a more affordable solution.
So to charge customers for buying annual flowers, vegetable plants, perennials and shrubs locally from a smaller family-owned business rather than some place such as Lowe's or Home Depot. Then penalizing customers by up charging with a 4% surcharge seems a bit harsh. In fact, wrong. Instead of shopping with your stores, I'll be supporting their competitors including Living Landscapes, Inc., Rock Creek Supply, and more. And steering clear of this business for this reason alone. The businesses I mentioned are more than happy to take my debit card or credit card and not charge me for it. Since, I spend hundreds, if not thousands every year on flowers, vegetable plants, mulch, and...

(This review applies to both Chapel Hill St Burlington and Main St. Graham locations)
This spring I bought a bunch of vegetable plants as little babies in the spring and transplanted them into my garden at home. They are producing like crazy!! I couldn’t be happier.
I also did my front yard garden with flowers and plants from here last year, and they are healthy and blooming. The perennials came back just as well as they did the first year.
I also love to get fresh produce here. I love the open air market, the staff has always been so friendly and helpful to me.
Some days I like to just go wander through and see what they have- it’s just a happy place!! I always end up bringing something home.
Once I get another bed prepped, I will be...
Read moreVery poor customer service experience.
Called two days in a row trying to get them to let me buy a plant over the phone that my mother-in-law could pick up. I meant it to be her Mother's Day gift. She likes Garden Valley and to shop locally. Manager never returned my call so that I could place the order or to tell me that my request was not possible to accommodate.
Both times that I called Garden Valley Market, I spoke with an employee, who said that her manager would return my call. I do not blame the employee for the poor quality customer service that I received from her manager. In fact, it's because she was kind and genuinely apologetic during my second call that I am giving a 2, rather than 1, star rating.
I expect much better, more personal customer service from a local shop like this one.
Very...
