Our kitchen cabinets are 35 years old and looked it. But they are good quality oak cabinets, it's a 90s style home so we wanted to keep the styles original. The cabinetry up high was pretty perfect, but below counter, not so much. I took the doors and drawers into Ackerman Furniture Service in Burnsville, MN for stripping, staining and finishing. Ben Ackerman gave me his undivided attention. His crew then did one test door to make sure it was what I wanted, which it was, and then proceeded to refinish 21 doors and 11 drawers total. The results were everything I could have wanted. They matched their stain and finishing to the existing colors and patina of the cabinets up high, which we didn't refinish. They were perfect. Having had a business of my own, I recognized that this place excels in craftsmanship. Pricing was very fair. Thanks Ben!

Read more5 stars is not enough! I cannot say enough good things about Ackerman's Furniture. From the moment we walked in with our well-loved, definitely well worn rocking chair to the day we left with the beautifully restored family heirloom, we were treated with kindness and given ample options and time to make the decisions we needed as a family to make sure our chair was restored with the respect it deserved. Only a true craftsman can take a piece as old as this was and as worn as this and take 3 people's input and visions and turn that into a work of art able to take your breath away. This chair is at least 50 years old and from New England. That is all we know. It was passed down in the family. If anyone knows of where it might have came from please contact us! In the meantime, use Ackerman's for anything you need restored. They put their heart...
Read moreI am so glad my designer from Gabberts recommended I call Ackerman's to redo some of these Biedermeier chairs I found on a suburban Facebook garage sale site. I fell in love with the style and shape of the chairs and then also was rescued a rocker that was simple but had such character.
When I went in, everyone was so nice. I even got an entire tour of each part of the work rooms. And John immediately recognized that these pieces had such an unspoken history which made me know he and I were of the same mind! John and Penny were easy to work with, flexible with pickup and payment. Penny is also fast at responding to emails.
When he dropped off my three items I had my grandma's small table I asked him to fix and he is doing that right now! I also found a dining room table that I am excited to see what magic can...
