GR Grand Prix is a really fun time. The owner and staff are friendly and accommodating. It is not cheap, but it is well worth the cost. 3 races is 45 dollars or so, and each race is about 6 minutes. At first glance, that seems like a steep price, but this is not Craig's Cruisers. After a 6 minute race, you will be tired. A good lap time requires concentration and a lot of physical effort. Unless you are a fitness nut, you will need a break between races. This is good, because they have a very nice selection of food and beverages, with a lot of places to sit down and relax. I've been to GR Grand Prix twice, and 3 races is plenty for me. At my most recent visit, I did 3 races, and spent 2 hours there. After being home for an hour, my arms are still sore, and I'm still smiling. Now I just need to convince my boss to have our company holiday party there.
**2022 Update
Again, I couldn't be more pleased with my experiences at this establishment. THIS IS NOT CRAIGS CRUISERS! This is a place for adults that want to test their driving skills and have some fun. As for the staff: in all my experiences, the staff has been awesome, including the owner, who has an awesome sense of humor. As for the food: The pizza isn't Fricanos, but it's really good. Price: Yes, it's expensive. I've read all the reviews on price with one person saying it would have cost him less to go to cedar point. The fact is, you have no control over a cedar point ride. You have all the control at GRGP. Bottom line: We are lucky in West Michigan to have a place like this, which is very near to the place where I first drove a go kart at Dome World. GRGP brings people in from out of state, just to try it. GRGP is, in my opinion, one of the things to do in West Michigan that is worth...
Read moreThe staff here have no idea what’s going on. We came to race go karts and were told 30-45 mins, after an hour we still weren’t called. We checked on our group 2 more times and were told, you’re up after the next couple groups. 1.5 hours and we find out they never put us in the queue. If you come here, maybe you’ll get to ride, maybe not. Don’t count on the staff to have common sense.
Edit, since I can’t reply to your reply: My original review did not omit an important detail, as it’s not true that my group was “unsure of what we wanted to do” after registering. We never stated that, but is an assumption on your part as a third party. We had agreed to the wait time to your staff, registered, and visited the desk many times with follow-up questions about the process/our wait. You replied as if we registered and sat down immediately with no further communication with your staff, and that’s simply not the case. The staff didn’t need to “come over and see if we’d made a decision” as my group went up to the desk a handful of times, asking how will we know when it’s our time to race, how do we get in the queue for another race after the first, how much longer for our group (2+ times). No one thought to mention “you’re not actually in a queue!”
The reality is, there was miscommunication all around. But that is not the responsibility of the customer to make things clear. That is your staffs responsibility. It’s not a good look to blame your potential customers for your failure. We had a great time at Craig’s Cruisers despite wasted time on...
Read moreI'll start off with I never do these review things, never really had to write one, but today I was turned away because of an hour long meeting, whether a staff meet or event meeting, this is a place to go racing. If you can't handle the noise of some karts then its probably not a great place to have a meeting.
This used to be a great place to come and race, but Vic just doesn't want to put the money into the Karts necessary to keep them all on level playing field. What do I mean by that? There is close to a 3 second between the fastest kart and the slowest. How do I know? He has used by buddy and me as guinea pigs to see how the karts are handling and not telling us that it was bad until they ask about it after the race. Cool, not. I'm a top 10 racer that would go out roughly 3 times a week, but now I go out maybe 1 time a month.
I would like to say that I hope things will change and he will but some money back into the karts and the track. Maybe change things up a bit, but who knows. Leagues have dwindled as well.
It was a great place that I loved to go and race and talk with the employees, but I'm not sure I want to keep driving 2 hours (there and back) just to be turned away for some meeting. I really hope things change in the coming year. I want to go back to racing the fast karts and a new layout, its...
