Walraven's Market — Local services in Cadillac

Walraven's greenhouse inventory is impressive, and seems like it would be a good resource for those with a green thumb. We stopped in for some produce and meat, but found the service to be weirdly unfriendly. The butcher actually ignored us, even though we were the only people in the shop. We didn't end up buying any meat. So we walked around and picked up some produce and grocery items, only to find that the checkout staff was nowhere to be found when we were ready to pay. There was a blonde teenage kid working on some stocking tasks. He noticed us standing at the counter but just sort of shrugged his shoulders and didn't say a thing. Finally a disgruntled seeming woman showed up and checked us out without a hint of friendliness. Would it be so hard to say, "Hey, sorry to make you wait! Let's get you taken care of!" From there we drove down the road to a little grocery in Leroy where the staff could hardly have been more friendly.

If I were the owner of Walraven's, I'd spend some time looking more carefully at the kind of customer experience that my employees are providing. I suspect that my wife and I aren't the only customers who end up feeling like the staff just wants...

Great prices on flowers and plants. Really nice selection. Hanging baskets are the best around. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because, a woman ahead of us bought 16.00 worth of flowers and was given a 4.00 military discount. She didn’t even get asked for her military ID.. So we (being immediately next in line) asked for the military discount as well we were made to show our military ID’s (which is no problem) and we were given 4.00 off our 50.00 purchase. Went in to get some meat for the weekend BBQ and all was well untill the person at the meat counter used the same glove to grab my beef jerky as they just used to grab raw chicken breast. I told them I no longer wanted the Jerky. I requested a glove change and they did but then went right back into the same bin they just had their raw chicken gloves all over. I told them again I don't want anything out of that bin. So I went with a different flavor. Got home and threw it out because all I could think about was raw chicken all over it. This is just...
