I stopped at Extra Storage Space today on January 31, 2024 at the Carteret, NJ location to pay my bill, and the young lady who was first assisting me was not very knowledgeable and could not answer any of my questions, therefore she called a lady over who identified herself as the manager. The manager was very rude to me when I inquired why my bill increased. The manager then stated that my bill was subject to change with a thirty day prior notice. When I informed the manager that I never received a 30 day notice regarding a rent increase and asked her why was I not notified of the increase prior to the increase taking place, she refused to answer my question and instead continued to redirect the conversation to the bill amount telling me I needed to pay over $100 in order to keep my unit, when the original price of the unit was around about $70 when I first purchased it three months ago. She refused to answer my question as to why and how my rent was increased without me being notified of the increase. She became agitated when I kept asking her the question about the rent increase. The way the manager spoke to me was very rude and unprofessional. In my opinion, she has no customer service skills, she is very hostile, and should not be in a manager role or interacting with customers. After my unpleasant experience today, I contacted Extra Storage Corporate Office to file a complaint. The gentleman who took my call was very professional. He actually listened to my concerns and addressed my concerns, which made me feel appreciated as a customer. He also adjusted my rent to its original price which again was around about $70 in which taxes and insurance was included in that price. Also to mention the young lady at the Storage facility told me I had to pay a late fee because my payment was 2 days late; however the gentleman at Corporate who answered my call, informed me that I do not owe a late fee, and that in the state of New Jersey the law states that customers are to be given a 5 day grace period to pay rent after the rent due date before any late fees can be applied. Thank you to the corporate agent for your kindness and professionalism, but after the manager at the Carteret location rude, hostile, and unprofessional behavior towards me; I have made the decision to end my lease to prevent me from ever having to interact with that manager ever again. In the beginning I got this unit which was supposed to be temperature as advertised and it was not, every month I paid my rent before is due date but the last month I stayed there they charged me an extra $100 so a total of $387 with some change saying my rent increased, didnāt even let me know. They also added autopay to my account to charge this extra $100 without my consent because I never authorized autopay, I always went into the website to pay every month instead of autopay, when I called all they did was apologize and that the new rent would be $387 without any notice. I moved out because it was way too expensive, upon opening all my things my husband and I noticed poop and mouse pee in all our boxes, our mattresses were brand new and they have mice pee stains on them, all of our kitchen containers are covered in pee which is absolutely disgusting and I will be throwing all of this away as anyone who comes in contact with such feces and pee can get hantavirus disease and I have small children at home and everything canāt just be washed with bleach. Although the units seem clean they are not. Also something that happened which was very rude on the day I was moving out my husband connected a power cord to the storage outlet to vacuum clothes into storage bags and a worker came out with the power cord disconnected and yelled at me and told me I canāt be doing that and just walked away. It would off been nice if she at least explained we canāt use the outlet in a nicer manner or put signs up but if Iām paying $387 a month and I needed an outlet I donāt see what...

Imagine my surprise when I go to pay my bill and it went up 85 dollars. 85 dollars are they crazy? I called and I spoke to Nichole which was a super nice lady and she apologized and said she will see what she can do she talked to the manger and the manager said they wonāt raise me to 198 from 113 but Iāll have pay 154 thatās still a 41 dollar jump. I told them I wonāt pay no more than 130 as of now and I wanted to go to corporate because I work in retail and prices donāt usually jump that high lol. Nichole was understanding and told me her manager will call me that same day well I never received a call back matter of fact I had to call them back I spoke to Nichole and she said her manager told to her manager and they would credit me 25 dollars this month like if that was gonna be ok with me. I took the credit of course but Iām taking my stuff out and going somewhere else. I will never deal with extra space storage again and I hope if ur reading this review I hope u donāt either. Stay away they act like ur getting a deal when u first take a unit than 2 yrs later they wanna raise it 85 dollars more. Iām still looking to talk to a corporate member. Never even received a notice that my rent was going up like how rude is that from the start. Extra space storage u should be ashamed of urself another money hungry company stay away...
