LET ME START OFF BY SAYING I HAD A LOT OF MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT THIS PLACE BUT I STILL DECIDED TO GIVE THEM A CHANCE WHEN IT CAME TO BOOKING MY SISTER’S SWEET 16 HERE! IF I CAN GIVE THIS PLACE NO STARS I CERTAINLY WOULD! This past Saturday night was supposed to be my sister’s celebrated day with no complaints or mishaps, unfortunately during her party with lots of family & friends there the owner George decided to tell us that he doesn’t want us blasting “THAT” music whatever that means as if we didn’t pay to have our night celebrated. He marched in when it was about 1 hour left of the party & decided to not only turn on the lights while the guest were all enjoying themselves but also TURN OFF THE AIR CONDITIONING that left it uncomfortably hot for everyone in there all because of the music choice that was being played. I DO NOT understand what he even meant by the music being too loud when the whole purpose of the party is for the guest to enjoy & dance the night away, while my brother tried his best to talk to him it seemed as though he just didn’t want our kind of people in there. My brother is one of the most respected as well respectful person by many in Carteret & he even felt as though the message being delivered was that they just didn’t want “US” in there as I seen a similar review before. George was very disrespectful to our party & left us in embarrassment while he decided to act out in a crowd full of people. We will NEVER & I mean NEVER ever do business with this place again! It’s definitely disgusting to even have been treated like that, I hope you all especially my kind rethink before even trying to consider this place an option...

Let me express to you all how the VFW on Pershing Ave in Carteret NJ is the ABSOLUTE WORST PLACE to hold an event if you are ever considering it & would not suggest anyone spend the hard earned money booking this space! If I could give this place negative stars I would! Let me start off by saying how the owner or manger George had walked through my little sister party saying nothing to anyone but only to give people looks not once, not twice, but 3 times before coming into the party for a fourth time with an hour left cutting the lights on & telling my mother in law that he doesn’t like our music & wants us to get out. He then walks over to the Air conditioning unit, unlocks it & shuts it off in the event space for all of our guest to be unbearably hot. After my brother had gone over to politely talk to him to ask what the real issue was, George responded “my people can’t keep listening to that type of music” WHICH WAS AFROBEAT! That VFW is not a place that deserves money nor do I advise ANYONE to spend their money using that mediocre event space. I as well as my family will never again in our lives do business or recommend this place to...

Rude, xenophobic, bordering on racist.

While businesses have a right to refuse service. They should have a clear set of rules determining what kind of events they allow instead of agreeing to host an event, taking a deposit and then shutting down an event before the agreed timeframe. As this now borders on discriminatory practices.

Owner did not comply with agreements made in terms of length of event and then created the conditions to force guests to leave by making them extremely uncomfortable, i.e patrolling throughput the event, turning off the A.C during a known heatwave. Owner was hyper vigilant in asserting his presence throughout the event, when his presence was also not agreed upon. Instead it was as if he meant to create an environment of hostility.

For an establishment to have no conflict resolution skills to be able to have a conversation with the adults in the space and ruin a child’s birthday party displays a complete disregard for the humanity of the people in the space. Owner displayed an outright contempt for the culture inhabiting the space like someone out of the 1950’s. Please do not host...
