Just had a super, super uncomfortable visit on 12/10/23. Heading towards self-checkout like we've been doing for years, and an employee tries to direct us to a register. We said we preferred self-checkout and tried to keep walking, but she put her hand on our cart and tried to block us, then made a comment as we kept walking that we had a lot of items. Self-checkout has no item limit and as I said, we've been doing this for years at this location. If the cashiers had the bagging skills seen at Trader Joe's, we would use the normal lanes more often, but as it is, we prefer bagging ourselves. We get to the self-checkout area and someone hollers that they're free, but we see three open self-checkout stations so we choose one. One last employee tries to get us to check out with him. We reiterated our preference and he said, "Okay, I'm watching you like a hawk." I said, "Is that what this is about?" As it was clear by that point that all this aggressive behavior was only about preventing shoplifting, not keeping foot traffic flowing across lanes. He either didn't understand me or pretended not to.
I'm still in shock over our experience. If the manager/Target needs to prevent shoplifting, there are way, way better ways to go about it than trying to override your customers in that manner and treating them like criminals. The way we were treated two times over is absolutely unacceptable. There is no excuse. My husband and I were doing nothing wrong, we were being perfectly normal. We felt harassed and accosted.
UPDATE: I filled out the survey for my visit and heard from someone (Suraj Saravanan) with the title “SE ETL” who did not explain his role. Though his response included an apology, it fell flat, as though I’d been complaining about something inane and routine. Overall, the nature and level of response felt inappropriate. He made no gesture to incentivize us to give this store another chance. Our experience was disturbing, and I’m certain that every employee we mentioned was acting on direction/training from leadership. Employees do not just decide to collectively be aggressive in the interest of loss prevention all on their own. I will be sharing my experience with corporate in the interest of other customers and this store’s employees.
UPDATE 3/24/24: Now Target has decided to impose an item limit on self-checkout, clearly for loss prevention. It's better than accosting customers, but I am not looking forward to the poor bagging (or needing to bag myself every time), nor do I trust this location will be opening more lanes or hiring more cashiers, so I'm expecting long lines. Not at all pleased. In fact, our very first visit being forced into standard checkout lanes, we discovered after-the-fact that our cashier had charged us for 5 containers of broth, not 2. Since you can't see the screen as they ring up items, you have no chance prior to paying to ensure coupons are applied and items are rung up correctly, which is ridiculous. And on our latest trip in, our cashier made a passive-aggressive comment after we self-bagged that she tries to keep things fast when they're busy. (No one was in line behind us, by the way.) So, apparently, Target is not willing to meet the customer halfway to ensure an effective checkout experience for them. On top of the rest of this review, this location also commonly misshelves and misprices items, discontinues basics (like penne), and is completely out of reasonably priced basics (their in-house milk and EVOO has been out of stock for at least two weeks now, with no communication).
We're moving soon and will be shopping at Kroger rather than Target when we do. I can't believe that a company whose brand is centered on fun and a pleasant shopping experience is nosediving so hard in friendliness and convenience. I'll never look at Target the same way again and will avoid them for future...
Read moreWent into the store yesterday (5/1) for some capsules as I saw on the Target app that they were in stock. Went inside and did not see any. Found a worker and asked if they have any in the back. Worker checked her device and saw they had 13 in stock but was confused as to why it was not on the shelf. She was on her way to clock out so I thanked her for her time and ordered the capsules I needed on the app figuring that they’d have ample time to get it wherever it was in the back. Got the notification my order was ready to pick up and so I went back today. Thanked the person who gave me my capsules AND EVEN TIPPED THEM ONLY FOR THEM TO NOT BE THE CAPSULES I NEEDED. Went inside and spoke to Cici who was very pushy with the return that I had to go “can I please explain my situation”. She then explained to me that Fulfillment department did not do their job and probably bypassed the system to give me another item rather than just refunding me my money. Cici said her device shows there are now 12 capsule bottles on the floor and that I can go check. She did offer to go check for me but I said I can do it as it appeared she was the only one at the guest desk. I went and only found one bottle stocked. I ended up getting my refund and purchasing the one bottle smoothly but that’s not the point. I just wasted gas and time doing someone else’s job. I even tried calling the store to speak with someone about the fact but when you call the number and choose guest services it just rings and rings. Never had problems with this store till now and I’m just upset with how lazy the fulfillment department is that I had to end up doing their job and that my concern could not be addressed...
Read moreYou should change this person as store manager, I don't know how he was given this position. Because he is not professional in his dealings with customers, and this is not the first time, but the second time, with the same person who calls himself the store manager, because the store will lose a lot of customers, including me, who spends more than $4,000 a month in this store. I was subjected to racial discrimination in the form of clear harassment and expulsion in front of the surveillance cameras and in front of people inside this store by its manager, who said that the store belonged to him, and this is a funny thing as well. He kicked me out and brought the police on me because I was trying to use the gift card as a photo. He said you can't use that card, knowing that the card contains numbers, barcodes and the store's logo target. Conditions for obtaining my rights by any means, and I am ready to meet this irresponsible person. He said that you cannot return to this store again without a legal reason, and I bear full responsibility. Customer service is insanely bad, unlike other stores, where they treat the customer as king, and even offer an apology in the form of a shopping voucher like Walmart and Lidl. If a manager leaves, a better one will come. As for the customer, if he leaves, it is a great loss for you. If it is a pain for me, I am fully prepared for it, and I know that I am right. I do not advise anyone to go to this store, especially to meet...
