I recently visited Cary Crab House with my family to celebrate my birthday, specifically looking forward to enjoying their King Crab Legs. Upon arrival, the restaurant was relatively quiet, with only a few other parties present. We were seated promptly and began our meal with hush puppies and shrimp while waiting for the rest of our group to arrive.
Throughout this time, we had multiple conversations—within earshot of our server—about ordering the King Crab Legs. Despite this, we were only informed that they were unavailable after the rest of our party had arrived and after we had already placed part of our order. There was no signage at the entrance, no indication on the menu, and no proactive communication from the staff regarding the shortage of what is arguably one of their signature items.
This lack of transparency was disappointing, especially given that the dish was a central reason for choosing this restaurant. With limited time before a scheduled movie, we were left with little choice but to stay. I opted for the Dungeness Crab Legs as an alternative, which were underwhelming and did not justify the price. On a positive note, the hush puppies and shrimp were well-prepared and enjoyable.
Overall, while some aspects of the meal were satisfactory, the poor communication and unavailability of a key menu item significantly detracted from the experience. Unfortunately, it’s not a place I would choose...
Read moreAwful dining experience unless you like to eat with your hands ! We went in for diner and you'd expect a nice place.. ufff... the walls are plastered with graffiti from kids, minus 1. The menus very limited, minus 2, the server was nice, plus 1. When we got in, I noticed several people with buckets and I thought "what the hell ?? Are these barf buckets ?" ... then my wife also noticed everybody had plastic bibs .. what kind of place we came in ? But still decided to give a chance and got seated... soon came our barf buckets and I asked, "are you gonna bring silverware ?? - Oh sorry no..." Well that was it, but since we had already ordered, I went back and told the server to put in a box and I'll take and eat at home with real utensils which she said ok. I will give a positive point though, the food tasted quite alright: we ordered "headless" shrimp with potatoes. When we got home, my wife said "they didn't pack your potato - I said what ??? "yeah, there was only one, one miserable potato, ping-pong size ! The cajun fried rice was alright... with sausages where one would expect some sort of seafood, but it was alright since it is written in the menu and like I said, it tasted good. I am being very generous with 2-stars because the taste was good. All in all, first time and last time. If you want a nice dining experience, go...
Read moreThis place has got a ways to go. 2 months in a restaurant is obviously still finding its sea legs, but this place just didn't seem prepared.
First off, we had a party of three coming, two of them were running a little behind and the host declined to seat me. I understand this policy for a restaurant that has a serious dinner rush, but they were at most about 1/3 full.
After everyone arrived, we sit down and our server comes to take our drink orders. Pretty generic selection. Domestic beers and your usual suspects for imports. I ordered a corona with lime. They only had lemons. Just the Corona then.
Then we get to ordering. They had two different signs for the blue crab on special. So that's what we ordered only to hear that they didn't have it tonight because their shipment had not arrived. So we take another minute to decide our options. But the server returns to say that they had just gotten the blue crab in! So that was good news.
The crab was delicious and the seasoning is solid. They do bring cheap cutlery and your crab out in plastic steam bags which I'm not a huge fan of. And you get a potato as a side. Not a baked potato. Not several potatoes. One red potato.
Regardless, this place just seems like it's still a little unprepared. A few more months and hopefully they find their way. But I probably won't be back...
