I want to be honest and I don't mean no disrespect with what I'm about to say. I've been coming in this store all my life. The old owner before he died God rest his soul he was an amazing human being I did a lot of work and a lot of dealings with him. Haven't been in for a long time since he passed. His granddaughter ended up with the store an a few family members are running it now. Me and my husband went in a few weekends ago to look around and see if we could find anything we love to collect. Before I got into the store a few people had Expressed to us that they were extremely unhappy with their experience due to the fact that a few of the women that were working inside happened to be very snobbish and rude. When we made our way inside one girl was so kind and very helpful you could tell she cared about that place and the benefits it might have for people also for the local people. Granted there are a lot of things that are extremely overpriced a lot of things that are damaged and the price for these items were kind of ridiculous. But it's given in a place like that. I'm gonna say that we enjoyed looking around and there was a lot of things that we were very interested in, but the prices like I said we're too much and something that we could not do and when we tried to engage conversation, the one girl like I said was very nice but the 2 other women wasnt. the dark haired girl and the older woman were very rude an was very snobbish to us when we try to talk to them about items . At 1 point we were in one of the backrooms trying to look around an the dark headed girl come in trying to act like we were criminals in some way.Not only did she give us diety looks she wouldn't speak to us but listen to our conversation while standing very weirdly close to us.When it comes time for me and my husband to leave and I went to the counter I had a couple items that I had to ask about if maybe we couldn't negotiate a price and the older woman was not very nice to me and she was rude and she was not willing to. it was only a couple of books but Hey it is what it is. but my experience was not OK other than the other girl that was extremely nice the other women were very rude. My whole life I've been coming into this place and I have always had a wonderful experience except this time not quite sure if me and my husband will be back this several of the other customers when we engage conversations with them felt the same way. It's sad and ashame. There is so much they could profit off of if they had the right workers with the right attitude and worked on pricing. Hope to see in the future it...
Read moreThe Olde General Store has the best customer service! My husband loves their TOE jam (Tangerine, Orange, Elderberry), and we can no longer find it. We were delighted to find that we could order it online from The Olde General Store. Our first order of 12 jars arrived, packed very securely and carefully by the store, but there was obvious damage by the shipping company (as if they had drop kicked the box). I emailed The Old General Store, and within days they had shipped me replacements for the broken jars. We just ran out of the jam, and I submitted an order a short time ago, and the 12 jars arrived, wrapped individually, in a taped box which was put into another taped box. It was well labeled as "fragile" and "glass" and the jars arrived in perfect condition. We appreciate being able to order from a store with such good customer service -- maybe someday we will make the trip from Virginia to Kentucky to shop...
Read moreFirst, this is not what most people consider to be a , "General Store." It's an antique store... or more aptly put, a hoarder's liquidation front. This place gave me anxiety before I even got in the front door. Geodes just strown about on the ground. Buckets of rocks on the porch. A decaying cardboard box with black tarps in it...presumably for sale. Inside you'll find saws, cups, mugs, plates, tools, and any number of other things. At one point I came across a bushel of used duct tape rolls for sale! Nothing in the store seems curated and the prices are very high. If rummaging through junk in search of a treasure is your thing, by all means, have at it. Not my cup of tea.
Also, it's moldy. My wife had to leave and was coughing and sneezing for a half hour...
