I found this store a few years ago prior to moving to AZ. I have bought so many items from this store. I love the store, however the owner of the store is one of the rudest people I have ever done business with. The first time I was in the store I bought an expensive lamp. She wrapped the lamp in bubble wrap and it made it back to Nevada in one piece. After leaving the store several in our group mentioned how rude she was to them. I thought she was cold and not very friendly. Then about 2 years later I moved to Az. I couldn’t wait to head to the Mexican Rose to decorate my new home. I bought several items over the next year. On one visit to the store I bought a stone vase, again expensive. I however did not check it over. She wrapped it in bubble wrap and took it out to my car, it was heavy. When I unwrapped it I found a nick in the stone. I called her and she immediately started to yell that it was in perfect condition and I was the one who nicked it. Her voice kept rising as she yell, “no refunds”. I asked her, “did I ask for a refund? I was calling to see if I should put anything on the nick to protect it.” She did not answer me, she hung up on me. It took me about a year to go back in that store. I again asked if there was something I should put on the nick. She went off on me again. Move to last Monday. We were in Cave Creek. When we walked by her store I saw a statue that I loved. She was not working that day and the other sales person was charming. We went home to think about it. My husband said are you sure you want to buy anything from that store? We went back the next day to purchase it. I could tell she was trying to be nicer, she got snippy when I looked over the same 3 pieces deciding which one I wanted. We brought blankets and towels to wrap around the 4.5 foot statue so she would not move around. These came in 3 sizes. After seeing it in my house I decided I wanted 2 of the smaller ones as well, They are about 2 feet high. I went up today to but then. One is $150 and the other $160. It’s a good hour drive from my house. I walked in, no other customers in the store. I saw her and said, “I decided I can’t live without theses 2 as well. Wrap um up.” She responded, “I don’t wrap.” I said, “they are not going to make it home without some bubble wrap.” She responded, “it’s your responsibility to bring wrapping with you. “I can only give you one small piece of tissue.” I reminded her that she had wrapped everything I had bought from her. She told me I would have to come back with my own packaging. She never left her chair while I was there. I said, “Really? It’s over an hours drive to get here and you have always wrapped what I have bought. You can’t spare some bubble wrap?” I should mention it was about a half hour before closing time. She said, “You will have to come back with your own packaging.” I have had people asked where I got this or that and when I say, The Mexican Rose in Cave Creek, they always respond with, It’s a cute store but the lady who owns it is so rude I won’t go in there anymore. I have just joined them. Today was the last time I will go...
Read moreWent to the store 1st day in town. Saw an item I really wanted but decided to wait till I had looked through some other stores first. Went back to the store and they were closing the doors. Asked if they were closed wanted to buy two things. She said no we are closed will be open 9 to 5 tomorrow. I drove an hour and a half to go to the store. Next day even though it was a long drive my brother also wanted to get one of the lighted suns. So we drove and hour an a half to the store. I'm 1700 miles from home so wanted to get the lighted sun with the coyote and brother wanted the cabin one. So we are looking at the lighted suns and the lady says we don't have any of them in stock only one I have in stock is the Harley Davidson one. I said well I'm from Tennessee and I want the coyote one and my brother wants the cabin one. She said they aren't for sale they are floor models, then walked away from us. Never said well when they come in I can call you. Or maybe I can have it shipped to you. She just walked away and ignored us. Totally rude!!! Yet it had a price tag on it and she good have sold two of them right there on the spot and refused to sell them. I am also a business owner and never have refused a sale. The store has many beautiful things in it and my brother said he won't be back to that store ever again to buy other things he wanted for his home. Other stores in the area have also told me they have heard them same thing from...
Read moreFor the past eight years, I have often stopped by or shopped at Mexicana Rose for when visiting Cave Creek Village several times each year.
Years ago, this store used to offer reasonably affordable Mexicana art and decor. It used to be delightful to shop at Mexicana Rose to look for quality merchandise and art decor made in Mexico.
However, over the last couple of years, Mexicana Rose morphed into JUST ANOTHER OVERPRICED Cave Creek Village store that caters to affluent clientele and wealthy seasonal snowbirds with more money than common sense.
The interior of Mexicana Rose has been made excessively dark to accommodate the extremely overpriced quartz art that "lights up."
By the way, there is already a corner tourist trap in Cave Creek Village that sells the same ridiculously overpriced quartz art that is internally illuminated. So, I was very disappointed to see on my last visit that Mexicana Rose decided to overcrowd the already narrow walking paths inside the store with tourist-like junk art impeding free-flow walking.
My last visit was March 2022, and it will be just that — my last visit.
The only thing worse than an overpriced quartz rocks with a 25-watt light bulb glowing at its center — would be overpriced ILLUMINATED VELVET ELVIS PAINTINGS with glued-on rhinestones and glitter.
Too bad, because it seems there is very little "Mexicana" at Mexicana Rose in Cave...
